Perhaps not a main BTCC format but it featured BTCC drivers; Toca World Cup(?) where they had 50 or so cars on track, was manic! 1994 at Donnington and either '93 or '95 at Monza iirc.

For some reason in my head if the BTCC were to have a signature address then it'd have to be Thruxton.

Higher speeds, more room for a bigger field etc....plus of all the tracks its my favourite.

I know Dunlop have issues with tyres enough at the race distances being ran at the moment but in my mind if they were to run a much longer race it'd suddenly be worth it for them to work on a more durable tyre.

Basically I want a northern hemisphere Bathurst 1000, is that too much to ask? :p

What BTCC should consider is bringing the TOCA Shoot Out back, but redesigning the format from 1 long race into 3 separate races to mirror the current championship. So running it at Donington Park:

- 3 races, each of 15 laps
- First two races are heats, top 8-10 finishers of each race proceed to final
- Grid for first race determined by practice sessions, odd numbers (i.e. 1st, 3rd, etc...), slowest up front, quickest at back
- Grid for second race same as for first race but even numbers
- In heats - Mandatory black flag for last car starting at lap 5, with black flag shown to last car every 3 laps
- In heats - Safety car out to bunch up field on lap 10
- In final - Mandatory black flag for last car starting at lap 5, with black flag shown to last car every 2 laps until only 6 cars remaining
- In final - Safety car out to bunch up field on lap 12 for 3 lap sprint to finish

Maybe I ought to throw my hat in and talk about the BTCC's brief involvement at the Birmingham Superprix?

Look up on YouTube, there is a popular video of a great scrap of a trio of Ford RS500s at the 1989 Birmingham Superprix with Murray Walker commentating.

It's always surprised me that with the number of street races there are for series that really don't need them (ALMS and Indycar are good examples) that the BTCC doesn't do them. The extra interest that would create would be pretty impressive. That said, I can't imagine local councils being as open to the idea as they are in the States.

Well Indycar does probably need them since they tend to bring in more fans then on non-Indy ovals.

Don't they still have to get it through Parliament in order to be allowed to host a street race?

If it is not Birmingham then the city will need a new Bill to allow racing inthe streets.

Birmingham can race anytime now as the Bill is still valid and it must only race on the Superprix circuit.

But there is the costs to host and run it though.

Actually I read something that just after they were elected in the Conservatives made the process for closing roads and such easier for any large event that would require this.

Probably in preparation for the Jubilee celebrations and such but it had a knock on effect for the motor racing industry as now it became a lot easier to plan and hold a street race.

I think I read something in Autosport a couple of years ago about this, obviously no-one took the bait sadly otherwise we'd have heard of it by now.

Last time I heard about a street race in the UK (aside from the Superprix, which still makes the local press every now and again as some politician or other will bring up a half hearted campaign to bring it back!) was when Champcar were planning to run a race in Manchester, for some bizarre reason or other, and I'm sure the BTCC would've wanted to be a part of that!

I just watched the 1995 season (mostly via the old BBC Grandstand highlights shows) and I'm pining again.

Interesting (well I thought so - never heard about the accident from Charlie Cox's perspective) snippet on the 1995 privateers. Try to ignore James Allen if you can.
