I never thought Soper was an arse or smug, rather he was a professional driver who played the corporate game. I always thought Harvey was more smug than Soper. Although having met both during the 90's they were nice enough to their fans.

Harvey was smug for sure, but the way Soper acts is just pathetic IMO, not professional. He just flat out lies about the incident and plays the innocent game, when it was a very delibrate act of almost violence, not lack of a better word.

That's the least professional thing you can do in a race car.

If we're only referring to the 1992 incident then yes I agree, but Soper was part of a master plan that will implicate Harvey and a lot of others if he were to admit what he did. That's hardly likely to ever happen now is it? Other than that Steve has always been a decent person.

Well, the rest of the program focused way too much in him and on Neal. Anthony Reid wasn't even mentioned once!

That episode made me wonder how this forum would have reacted to the Vauxhall team circa 2001-02. Im pretty sure a driver lineup of Muller and Plato would have made them the most unpopular team of all time

Well at the time both of them weren't quite the jerks they were to become so I guess based on that season we'd just be relieved that there WAS a BTCC and they were still in it tbh.

I never could quite bring myself to take a side in their big finale crash at Silverstone though, when Muller's engine cut out and Plato hit him.
The fact that it by result meant Plato was demoted to a couple of years causing a lot more serious crashing in ASCAR was pretty funny however :p

On balance I'd have to say Muller was the better driver, but they're both as dirty as each other tbh

Both arses but Muller is the only "world class" arse. Plato's a national driver, doubt he would have achieved too much on the world stage.

What are you talking about? They were both huge jerks and an utter embarrassment to the BTCC. At a time when the series was trying to reestablish itself and impress future entries looking to join the new formula, these two fools spent each racing weekend trying to knock twelve bells out of each other.

Ok fine, they were both jerks but the media weren't milking it as much yet meaning they weren't yet the clichéd panto villains they are now.

Better? :p

Very much!

And as for Silverstone that year it was Muller's fault. When your engine cuts out you don't immediately steer into the racing line of the car coming up your inside. But 888 backed Muller, Muller whinged and whined, and let's not forget BTCC wanted a last round decider for its new formula, so Plato took the punishment.

Just finished watching the entire 2010 season (took about 3 weeks lol). Good season! I was hoping for Neal or Shedden to make a charge at Plato for the championship towards the end but he was just too dominant in the final rounds. My favorite driver is PON, if it weren't for all the issues he had, he could have easily been in the top 4 or 5 in points at least. And that Integra is just awesome. Gonna try to watch most of the '11 season before the current season starts.

So I made this post before watching the last of the three shows. For the past 12 years I'd always thought it was merely an engine issue, misfire, something like that. Now to learn that Muller was out of fuel only goes to validate further that this situation was 100% Muller's fault.

I haven't seen number 3 yet either, but how did they run him out of fuel in a championship that didn't feature refuelling? :?

I imagine by putting the minimum required amount in the tank to finish the race and getting the calculation slightly wrong.

Yes.

You also have to consider that it was a safety car affected race and they had 5 laps added back on to the distance, as was the rule back then.

It was on the run to the flag. Muller had about 1-1.5 seconds gap to Plato so it wasn't simply a JP late-lunge that caused the incident. Muller's car stuttered going through Bridge, going into the next corner (Priory?) Muller was even slower and wasn't even on the racing line. As Plato went inside and very late in the corner Muller simply pulled towards the inside of the turn, even though at that stage of the corner he should have been fully over the outer side of the corner exit.
