Bummer for Scott in race 2. More cars are expected later in the season. Pretty good premiere

STCC states intentions to adapt TCR for either 2017 or 2018; Volvo immediately throws their toys out the of pram:

http://www.touringcartimes.com/2016/05/ ... adopt-tcr/

Quote:
“If you want to keep a manufacturer in the championship, or if we really want to stay, you would have to do some sort of balance of performance or postpone the introduction of TCR”

:slaphead:

Postpone TCR, so Volvo can win another couple of titles without competition? Or just wait until there are no other teams left?

Quote:
“A lot of national championships make the same mistake,” continued Murdzevski. “They say if only we get new cars everything will be fine again and we’ll get big numbers of competitors, but you can’t run a car cheaper anywhere in Europe than you can run this (Solution F) regulation, and if teams have difficulty in funding that, and then add car investment all top, (they think) all these importers are going to come running and supporting; well they’re not running now and they didn’t run when we were using S2000 previously either.”

:slaphead:

Because TTA/Solution F went over so well?

Solution F is simply not interesting to get involved into because:

1. It is not their own product. It is a silhouette formula.
2. There is no second-hand market for it because,
3. STCC is the only championship that uses them

Also, how many cars are there not in TCR Germany, TCR Asia, TCR world series compared to STCC?

Wonder why they don't go to Finland/Norway/Denmark...being billed as the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship. All rounds in Sweden seems weird.

Also, 7-8 round calendars always just seem so short to me. Should be a minimum of 10.

9 cars for Mantorp?

Emma Kimiläinen will miss Mantorp races after Skövde crash.

Another potential airfield event in the works as well:

Counterpoint : All of the super successful touring car series in the world currently have their own bespoke sets of rules, where the cars can only be used in that series.

I suppose you mean DTM, V8SC and BTCC. Those countries all have significant racing economies which can carry itself. Sweden cannot do that. Sweden is way too small and doesn't have a big enough fanbase. 15000 spectators for a race would be spectaculary good here now.

The "S" used to stand for "Swedish". In 2010-2011 there were races in Denmark, which were combined events with the Danish Touring Cars. But that series completely fell through, so all teams and all events that wanted to support the series were in Sweden. All Danish teams went to their own new championship, which goes by "V8 Thundercars" rules. STCC used to have races in Norway, but there were like 1000 spectators at those races so it was dropped after 2009. STCC has never races in Finland, mostly because there's never been any prominent drivers or teams from there, alas no fanbase.

As for only 7-8 rounds per year is a money and a season issue. Teams don't want to spend more per year. It sucks that the series seems so cheap. And the tracks are unwilling to host more than one event per year due to this political nonsense the last few years. Next race at Mantorp is on a Thursday for example. Also, weather can only be guaranteed from late April to early October. It snowed here on April 27th. It was 20 degrees C on May 4th.

WTCC as well.

From what I've heard, a move to TCR would double the cost of the cars...as you can buy a Sol F car currently for ~E50,000 and a TCR car comes in between E80-100,000.

I'd like to see a race at Ring Djursland actually, STCC has only raced at Jyllandsringen so far. But as long as the Solution F cars are used, the series can't grow, it is all about survival right now. I'm adamant about TCR (as for now). Even at it's height, STCC was relying on cars from abroad. The Volvo team subscribed to year old cars from BTCC for example. When (and hopefully not "if") STCC goes to TCR, more dealers will feel the urge to sponsor teams like in the Super Touring and S2000 era because it is actually their cars they would be running. STCC are already saying that there are 4 or 5 teams just waiting for the TCR announcement. The Seat team has already said that they have an TCR car.

Yeah, and the Ford team are doing it in anticipation of a TCR changeover as well.

The SEAT looks SO damn good in STCC form it's ridiculous.

SEAT needs it's own version of the A5 stat.

Flash Engineering switching to Nissan bodywork starting this weekend. Lunis Ohlsson to drive the first Nissan bodied car, other Saab's to get changed over during the season.

Looks Pulsar based.

Race is on tonight, starts 1830CET, this stream should work worldwide: http://www.svtplay.se/video/7982061/mot ... -maj-18-30

Wirdheim on pole for his first ever STCC race. Always good when it isn't a Volvo walk-over.
