The second meeting of the 2009 British Touring Car Championship sees the series make it's way to the fastest circuit on the calendar, the daunting Thruxton track in Hampshire:
Image

There has been some major news since the first meeting of the year, namely Vauxhall announcing that they will pull out of the championship of the end of the season. There has been quite a bit of moving and shaking as well, with Gordon Shedden being replaced at Team Dynamics by returning double-champion James Thompson. Team RML has also signed 2008's runner-up Mat Jackson to drive a Chevrolet.

The opening three rounds at Brands Hatch saw three different winners, with Matt Neal taking the first race, Rob Collard the second and Jonathan Adam the third, only for the Scotsman to lose his debut win after some over-zealous stewards penalised him and gave the race win to Jason Plato in his Chevrolet. Reigning champion Fabrizio Giovanardi didn't have a good start to the season with two non-points races, leaving him in 7th in the table at this early stage:

Code:
1.  Matt Neal             38
2.  Colin Turkington      32
3.  Rob Collard           29
4.  Jason Plato           22
5.  Jonathan Adam         16
6.  Adam Jones            14
7.  Fabrizio Giovanardi   12
8.  Stephen Jelley        12
9.  Gordon Shedden        11
10. Dan Eaves             10
11. Andrew Jordan          6
12. Harry Vaulkhard        5
13. Martyn Bell            2
14. Tom Chilton            0
15. John George            0
16. Alan Morrison          0
17. David Pinkney          0
18. Martin Johnson         0
19. Liam McMillan          0
20. Nick Leason            0

At Knockhill on Sunday so have to tape it... which is annoying as it's probably going to be a good set of races.

Paul O'Neill has said he'll be gutted if he doesn't break into the top 6 at Thruxton this weekend. I think he may be setting his sights a little high, but I'll be cheering him on if he does.

Fantastic news. It also means hes a serious contender for the title. If RML could get Jackson for the rest of the season, then thats a very, very good line-up.

Awesome news. With JP, Jackson and JT now joining BTCC has an even greater line up. Lets hope Jackson can stay on and SHedden can return.

Thats not a bad time for Thommo. I'm sure he'll get quicker as the day progresses
