Awful decision. Seems TOCA will do anything to try and keep their Messiah happy.

I can't understand that why he was disqualified, yet Rob Collard wasnt. You can't run someone off the track deliberately in a straight line, so why are you allowed to do it when exiting a corner? :? I can't understand why so many series see that kind of behaviour as acceptable.

For the love of...

Giovanardi did the exact same thing to Mike Jordan 2 years ago and got a fine.

Good to see that the official forum, which is usually a hive of Plato\SEAT fanboys, is completely bagging ToCA for it.

That penalty was a bit harsh on Adam. I think that had Plato ended up in the gravel a penalty would have been justified, but since he didn't, the result should have stayed as it was.

On a a separate note, ITV need to fire their director.

Maybe there's more to this than meets the eye....

"Hey guys we won the race, want to sponsor me for the full season now?"

Perhaps it has more to do with keeping Jason in the championship than the actual race as a whole...

To be honest I think it was a fair decision. If it was me in that Lacetti, and I was punted out of the lead, I'd want action to be taken. Having said that, there were a handful of other moves that day (By mainly Matt Neal, but also Plato) that should have been punished.

Bleh. 3 good races and great action mostly as usual but too bad about the race 3 decision :x.
It was pretty early on in the race too so they could've given a drivethrough or whatever if they felt about it that way, not this result-reversing +4 seconds (???) stuff.

Its better to give a 4 sec penalty or Adam would be way down the order if he got a drive thru

Although I'm glad Plato got the win ( :flag: ) I do think the incident he was atcually penalized for was strange. The accident was clearly accidental in my eyes and Adam's should not have been penalized for it. What was mentioned by Tim during the broadcast and seemed to go unnoticed was the fact that Adam's appeared to move on the grid. He did move slightly on the grid before the race started and even tho he stopped himself, Harvey stated that any movement on the grid before the race officially starts is strictly prohibited. So I felt it was odd to penalize for an accident rather than a breach of ruling.

I hope this win demonstrates the ability of Plato and the Lacetti and that a sponsor quickly jumps on board and we see Plato for the entire season.

They've got to penalise it though, otherwise everyone will be "accidentally" punting people off at every race.

If they're going to start punishing accidental contact, they can start with everything Matt Neal got up to yesterday and go from there. Doing that sort of thing would make the BTCC no better than the DTM. It's touring cars, shit happens.

If Adam had been on the inside at PHB and had simply not braked, then it's time to bring the Clerk of the Course in.

So if you had been in Jason Plato's car you'd have been "Yep, that was a fair move. I don't think it should be punished."

I admit I think it was accidental, but maybe it was careless, and you've got to draw the line somewhere. I'd say it was similar to Collard's nudge on Neal at the same corner a few years ago.

IIRC, Jason did say that it was not deliberate (or words to that effect) when he was collared by Steve Rider after he got out of the car.

Adam was right on his tail and Plato braked early. There was only ever going to be one result. If Adam had copied what Gio did to Mike Jordan at the same place (completely miss his braking point and use the car in front as a brake in the middle of the corner), then he would deserve a fine, the same punishment that Gio got.

Steve Ryder started the programme saying "BTCC, where the action is settled on the track, not in wind tunnels or appeal courts."

:(

Oh yeah I agree Neal should've been the first one to get a penalty. I feel the stewards should be a bit more strict than they are, there was too many unfair moves on sunday IMO. But hey-ho, that's BTCC I suppose.

Credit to Colin Turkington BTW, he was on the receiving end a couple of times, and it must have been pretty tempting to retaliate, but he kept it clean all weekend. (IIRC!)

I remember Alan Gow about 10-15 years said that any rubbing or bumping would lead to heavy penalties. He then relaxed that in the late nineties. Since the Plato / Muller days of 2001 it has become the norm for a driver to simply "move" a competitor out of the way in order to gain a place. This requires no class or racecraft. Plato and Neal are the worst offenders, but the authorities don't seem to want to stop the drivers doing this. Look at Gio on Sunday. He drove to the front yet made passes without contact.

What I will say about Plato though is I was impressed by his conduct after the race. He levelled no criticism to Adam and was clearly happier to be second than unhappy not to have won.
