After the visit over the border to Knockhill in Scotland, the British Touring Car Championship heads back into England and to the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire for rounds 22, 23 and 24 of the 2009 series:

The big news is that former F1 driver Johnny Herbert has joined the BTCC, replacing James Thompson at Team Dynamics as James honours previous commitments in other championships. And to add to that in a surprise announcement, Anthony Reid is back in the series after 5 years out, joining up with Team RAC in a third car as they try and help Colin Turkington win the title.

Knockhill saw a strong showing by the Chevrolets with Jason Plato and Mat Jackson picking up a win apiece. However, in the championship the main importance was that Fabrizio Giovanardi continued his charge and reduced Turkington's lead in the standings to just nine points with nine races remaining:

Code:

x3 at least.

At the weekend I was in the pub and one side of the pub started recreating the "Green Arrrrmyyyy" advert and some women on a hen night heard them and started chanting it back. The recreation even went up to the point of the women pretending to be asleep like at the end of the ad.
I really don't want to see the frickin thing 20 times this weekend. Nor the meerkat.
I guess this weekend we get to escape to watch the F1 race for a bit, realise nothing is happening, and come back.

Funny that Reid comes back for Silverstone, of all places. I still haven't forgiven him for his mental and downright dangerous driving there in 2004.
I think it said a lot that Muller could not stand Jason Plato but it was REID he nearly came to blows with in Pit Lane at Brands one year...

Still, it'll be nice to see Johnny Herbert out. Nice guy. Too nice for the BTCC?
We'll see.

Ooh, didn't realise BTCC was racing this weekend, assumed they weren't clashing with the GP. Looks like it's Porsches during the F1, wonder which will be duller?!?

Will be interesting to see how Herbert goes, can't remember him ever being very aggressive in sportscars or Speedcar.

I'll be at Spa anyway so maybe I'll record it :D hopefully Gio can take the lead from Turk and Herbert can do well, I'm sure he will :)

No they don't. Saturday races are never shown.

On another note, Clyde Valley Racing and Cartridge World have split. CW intended to run the cars without CVR assistance for the final 3 meetings, but have had to withdraw :( .

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

VX racing will be back next year in some form or another, whether be an independent operation, or as a KIA works team (Its a persistant rumour that wont go away.)

Ugh, the BTCC's car count has been dropping like a stone since mid-season. :(

Yeaa, that really hasn't been good :(

But BTCC is always a survivor it'll recover from its dwindling grid size.

Maybe so, but the last thing we want to see in 2010 is a return to the days of 2005 and 11 cars grids. :(

Dropping like a stone? I think thats exaggerating a bit, we started the season with 21 cars, and for this meeting all well and good, we should have either 19 or 20. When Jackson and Nash arrived, Leason and McMillan went, Nash, Bell and Morrison were absent at Knockhill, but according to the main site, should all be back, and with Reid joining as well and the likelihood of Matt Hamilton and Jason Hughes joining from Rockingham, its not all doom and gloom!!
