The 2008 British Touring Car Championship is reaching its climax and the penultimate event on the calendar featuring rounds 25, 26 and 27 will take place at the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire this weekend:

Knockhill was a perfect example of the season so far as Jason Plato won two races and retired in the third meaning he barely made inroads into Giovanardi's lead with the Italian racking up three solid finishes in Scotland. He now holds a 41 point lead with six races remaining:

Code:
1.  Fabrizio Giovanardi  228
2.  Jason Plato          187
3.  Colin Turkington     160
4.  Mat Jackson          155
5.  Matt Neal            152
6.  Tom Onslow-Cole      144
7.  Gordon Shedden       137
8.  Darren Turner        119
9.  Adam Jones            94
10. Tom Chilton           81
11. Rob Collard           55
12. Steven Kane           49
13. Andrew Jordan         45
14. Mike Jordan           31
15. Stephen Jelley         8
16. Matt Allison           3
17. Chris Stockton         3
18. Michael Doyle          2
20. Jason Hughes           2
19. Erkut Kizilirmak       1
21. Harry Vaulkhard        1
22. John George            1
23. Martyn Bell            0
24. Stuart Oliver          0
25. Alan Taylor            0
26. Gareth Howell          0

Giovanardi will clinch the title if he outscores Plato by 12 points at Silverstone, barring a fantastic weekend for the other drivers still in with a mathematical chance of the title (Turkington, Jackson, Neal, Onslow-Cole and Shedden).

They didn't show any Legends racing at Knockhill which was a shame.

To be fair to them though, atleast most of the races they showed instead were good.

Very true.

And codename_47 pointed out why they couldn't show the Legends - with the heats and final format, they couldn't show the heats and then not the final.

With F1 and possibly GP2 gone, ITV are in a position to do something quite special with the BTCC next year. I wouldn't put it past them to do something similar to what Motors and then Setanta did.

Is GP2 going back to Eurosport next year? I can't fucking stand the ITV announcers.

I hadn't even thought of that, but it is a good point. Maybe BTCC can move to ITV1 on a permanent basis like it was a while back.

I would think whatever happens David Croft will either be doing the F1 on BBC or not doing live motorsport commentating anywhere (assuming ITV loses GP2 that is).

Dunno, but when it was on ITV1 the BTCC was pulling in around 1.5 million viewers at its peak.

The same old people who moan when Coronation Street gets delayed because of F1.

Wouldn't be surprised if they put the BTCC races live on ITV1 and the supports on ITV4.

This is from the Autosport\Atlas forums-

ITV are definitely losing it (I believe GP2 is attached to the F1 contract), although BBC could sell the rights to anyone. There is a strong rumour that GP2 Qualifying could be streamed live on the GP2 website.

From this thread.

One thing to consider is that it's well known that the head of ITV, Michael Grade, really doesn't like motorsport.
