Endurance season starts this weekend at Phillip Island, with the L&H 500.

Should be a great weekend, got a lot of internationals coming out, new format on Saturday.

Also comulsory brake pad change is gone.

It is literally impossible for this car to not get involved in at least two stupid incidents in this race

Won't the teams be changing them anyway because of the long race+heavy braking at Philip Island or will they just risk it on one set?

Also: what's the weather going to be like, does anyone know? :?

Doesn't really matter i don't think, the choice should always have been there whether a team wanted to conserve the brakes & make it without changing, or go for broke & change them.

Hopefully this weird format only lasts this weekend as well.

Happy enough to see the Phillip Island 500 return, just a shame it was at the expense of Sandown though....

err, most would say 1 safety car is too many, the less contrived interruptions the better

Sandown had history as the Bathurst leadup going back to 1964, surely that counts for something? VESA dropped it like it didn't mean anything (but then again of course, they don't think anything existed pre-1997 :x

Tell me a race that was won by 10 laps?

Surely your not advocating 'competition yellows', or accidents causing safety cars?

The track back then was much better for the kind of racing of the day. For todays V8SC its just not right. From a spectator standpoint, its horrible. Whereever you sit you see 1 corner. Thats it.

So why not change the cars, rather than make the track do all the work?

So Scotty with what you just said in mind would you welcome the introduction of another manufacurer?

When did Peter Brock win Bathurst by 9 laps? He won the 1979 Hardie-Ferodo by 6 laps, but not on pace, with 2 hrs to go the top 3 were still on the same lap (infact Grice/Costanzo were catching Brock/Richards)

Jim Richards never won a race at Amaroo by 10 laps in a BMW. He won the 1985 Better Brakes 300 by 2 laps, but again not on pace. (Brock had a problem allowing Richards through)

Where are you getting these plainly wrong facts from?

b) Why change a perfectly good formula (changing the cars)?

A formula with spiralling costs, and processional racing (which you admitted earlier yourself). Seems like there is plenty they can do to change the formula.....

Case 1: Driver wins by large margin.
Case 2: Driver leading by large margin, Safety Car out, margin lost, loses lead on restart.

To be honest I'd prefer to see Case 1 rather than Case 2, even though Case 2 is generally more entertaining, especially if it isn't a valid safety car (i.e. debris, car not in dangerous position etc.).

TKR continue their Friday non appearances.
1 lap in Practice 1, ventured onto the track in P2 and didn't set a lap time but may have caused a red flag, not on track in P3.

Speculation at Ten-Tenths has the car running with an old WPS enginge this weekend, as SBR reclaimed their enginge until bills were paid. If TKR manage to make the series for the rest of the year, and are still around next year I will be astonished.

@ Scotty

All drivers were cross-entered, so not completely sure, especially the multiple drivers appearing across the cars in the practice.

This should be the line up. Not sure who is driver A or B, other than that Lowndes will be in the A race, and Whincup in the B race.

In the touring car greatest hits, they mention Jim Richards won a race at Amaroo by 10 laps.

Do you mean the bit off "Australian touring car racing greatest crashes 1985-92", where Terry Shiel crashes the Peter Jackson Gazelle into the Lansvale Commodore, and Mike Raymond is going on about how Richards is going to win by 10 laps anyway and how he shouldn't have been caught up in the accident?

That was an off the cuff remark, as all his competition had retired by then in the 1987 Amaroo 100, he won by a lap from Brad Jones Mitsubishi.

You'd rather have boring races won by country miles?

If a driver or team win a race by a country mile on merit as they have done a better job than the others, then yes i would prefer that than someone a mile behind benefitting from a late safety car to 'do a desperate' up the inside and win....

Is it right in races like Sandown race 2 (when Whincup had a comfortable lead), and Darwin race 2 (when Richards had a comfortable lead) that these races were won by drivers who'd have never won had there not been a late safety car?

They wouldnt be very popular though, and the purists will hate the day Toyota wins at Bathurst.

I'd be more inclined to say that the purists would be the one's to applaud a Toyota win (like they did when Nissan won) if they won on merit.

I dunno, i like all car racing although I would be speculative of a toyota or a mitsubishi coming into the current series. After a while we would all get used to it and the purist holden and ford fans would have another team to hate lol. One thing I would like to see gone is this s h i t rule of body panel damage black flags that has been forced down the throat of the racing community by greedy frikin insurance companies. Racing is dangerous get over it!

Anyways here's my tip for the weekend... This will be a far better meet than sandown 500 (betcha thought I was going to say Craig Lowndes and Whincup win the first PI enduro....)

Bring on the racing :flag: :flag: :flag: :flag: :flag: :flag:

I hope your being sarcastic, because the Bathurst pundits were definitely not applauding when Nissan won in 92.

None of the 'drunks' under the podium at Bathurst in 1992 slagging off the Nissan drivers were what you would call 'purists'

'Purists' are the race fans who know their stuff & follow motorsport, and the purists knew full well that the likes of the Nissan Bathurst wins in 1991 and 1992 were fully deserved (and they knew the rules) and were won fair and square.

Therefore it would more likely be the 'post-1997' crowd that would be up in arms of a Toyota or whatever Bathurst win....

Well we'll see, but chances are this could turn into a tyre conservation exercise.
