actually there are plans that audi and bmw will enter their testcars so the grid will have 16 cars.

Current provisional calendar. Norisring is actually a good place to start the season.

Welp, that's likely my Anderstorp trip gone. Neither Anderstorp nor St. Pete would want to host a race in October, and money talks, so I doubt Anderstorp will feature on the final calendar at all.

The problem with DTM is that they are thinking too big. It's nothing new in German motorsport. It happened in the 80's with the DRM, it happened in the 90's with the ITC. Keep it simple, stupid. Is it a touring car championship or not? In the early 80's, the DRM morphed from being a touring car championship to a sportscar group C championship, and it self-died, the DPM was formed with group A touring cars and had a 40+ entry in its first year. In the 90's it had run amok again, and the ITC crashed and burned. The solution was again something simpler.

DTM needs to follow the market and adopt a popular formula like GT3 or TCR, not to try to stand alone.

It's exactly what happened in the 90's isn't it.

Go NGTC?

If they want rear-wheel drive, that's a good idea. And up the horsepower a little bit. Then it's fast touring car and it could be sustained by privateers (tempt teams over from ADAC TCR for example).

I've always wished that others had taken up NGTC. It races good and feels like it has more variety than TCR.

They're going to need a new plan pretty quickly because becoming a BMW Cup with low grids can't last long and it will quickly kill the little remaining interest the series has.

Adopting already an existing platform (like NGTC) would definitely save time and guarantee some sort of a grids. BMW is already in BTCC as a works team, and at least both Audi and Mercedes already have bodyshells?

Even if DTM would succumb because of this, top-level motorsport in Germany will survive. Something will take it's place. This is following a pattern.

NGTC would not work in germany, at least not as a replacement for the DTM.

with more attention now, GT Masters and TCR Germany will boom for a few seasons until we get DTM 3.0

Stuck already said that DTM should consider GT3.

I always thought the DTM was/is just a tad unsure about what it wanted to be. Was it a Touring Car Championship? Or was it a GT Championship? Or was it trying to become the F1 of Touring cars? Was it even a touring car championship anyway? This to me has ultimately cost it but what do now? Does it now want to become a GT3 or TCR championship? Well, there is so many of those type of championships, for them to go that route, it could potentially devalue and become pointless. Does it try and continue it's merger with SuperGt and become even more isolated as a championship because only a few manufacturers want to be a part of it and as indicated by todays news, many manufacturers don't? To me the DTM just wasn't focused on finding out what it's true identity was and it's potentially ended it.

But there's already GT Masters. It is under ADAC but apparently SRO still runs it and everything strictly GT3-spec belongs to SRO/Ratel.

One manufacturer left, no big deal.

They'll just run a 6-8 car race and market themselves as one of the premier championships.

Then they'll continue to convince everyone that they will merge with SuperGT in 2035 :flag: :flag:

seems like one more step towards electrification in german racing. They'll be back once the rules say all cars must use electric power units

You say that like it's a bad thing but I'd much rather see a full grid of multi manufacturer touring car racing than 8 BMWs on their own (they'll probably still use Team orders, too, like Citroen when they were pretty much all alone in WTCC one year...)

At some point you have to see which way the wind is blowing and adjust your course to match....
