Big drama at the start of race 2. Pye got turned around after getting to 3rd and incredibly didn't get cleaned up. Then Davison went straight off into the fence. SC out.

Randle to the lead for maybe the first time in his career? He is the only one who started on the soft tyre though.

That was almost a shunt for De Pasquale and Randle. Helped SVG a lot of course.

Holy shit, Anton turns SVG at the final corner of the race!

And Anton tried to redress but SVG just stopped right behind him, lol.

Those two races were somehow incredibly boring for almost all of it, except for the last corner of the 2nd one

I think they need to make some changes for the other 500km rounds later in the year, maybe have an extra set of softer tyres or split one of the races in two because it just turned into a tyre conservation procession for much of the races.

Sad news coming out of NZ today, the owners of Pukehohe have announced that the track will no longer be used for motorsport from April 2023 after 60 years to focus on horse racing, meaning that this year will be the last Supercars event held there.

Probably the most iconic circuit in the history of NZ motorsport, gone

Although I think a race at Highlands would be an awesome replacement.

End of an era. That track has seen it all.

God I hate horse owners, they're a special breed...... Honestly there are sooo many horse racing tracks in the region, why are they picking on Pukekohe :x

I've honestly no idea how in this era of PETA and caring more for animals, sports like Horse and Greyhound racing still exist

Oh wait, I do, it's because it's mainly posh people that benefit from them and they make shit tons of money for the betting fraternity

I always did wonder what would happen if overnight we woke up and decided whipping horses and mistreating dogs and making them run for our pleasure was suddenly deemed immoral and made to stop, there's suddenly be a lot of race tracks going begging, desperate for some new revenue stream...
I don't know anything about horse racing though so no idea how much you'd have to invest in safety features for the tracks (any time I see horse racing on TV though there doesn't look to be too much to hit around their tracks though.
(Might have to do something about the jumps, however....even though horses that buck off their riders seem to ignore them well enough too)

But yeah, sucks to lose Pukekohe just on the whims of the horsey set. Such a great track and always fun to watch racing there or play on racing games
Can't help feeling the horsey set have thrown out the wrong sport there.
Both Horse Racing and Motorsport might be coming to the end of their lives, comparitive to their rich history, I just have an inkling that maybe Horse Racing will go by the wayside first.
Lets hope anyway, stupid sport

yea, I kinda feel horsey racing might get 'cancelled' for your above reasons, which in this instance, I actually wouldn't mind cancel culture getting their claws into it

Oh, they made the right choice money wise. The amount of money in horses, especially thoroughbreds, dwarfs auto racing. Especially on an individual track basis.

I used to work at a horse track. It's a totally different world.

What a bummer, Pukehoke is one of my favorite tracks on the schedule.

not a surprise though, it's the same exact fate that ended racing (either it be cars or bikes) at the Indy Mile after 74 years

The Melbourne Cup, Australia's biggest horse race has gone from being a public holiday where Aussie's have a small gamble and fun, to a morality crisis where encouraging it in anyway is seen as torturing animals, all in the space of 5 years.

It's in the eyes of cancel culture here, at least now. Was non-existent not long ago. We had three horses die in one Melbourne cup in like 2019 and since then it's exploded.

I might have to get tickets to go this year if they are gonna close the track. It has seen some legendary names.

But yeah, also seems a bit short sighted. Not surprising though.

Always produced great racing, despite the fact there are only a handful of corners and the weather produced insane stuff. The 2005 crash with Dumbrell where he went through the fence, Murphy winning in the dark. I personally think the main "straight" is one of the most iconic parts of any race track in the world.

I was a little bit too young to see how Oran Park is destroyed (but still had opportunity to play a lot in Toca Race Driver 3) and now this :(

It won't, for the simple reason @

already pointed out - it's a sport for the rich, and they are untouchable as long as they can make sure that governments remain open to 'donations' from them. Fox hunting was officially banned in England in 2004, but still happens quite openly because the law was filled with exclusions, the penalties are minor and the police don't consider it worth their time. Go figure.

It's a shame about the circuit too. I used to race in an rFactor V8 Supercars league and the races there were never boring. Like @

said, it just seems like the kind of track that attracts action.
