The calendar for the 2022 season has just come out.

https://www.speedcafe.com/2021/12/05/2022-supercars-calendar-revealed/

13 events. New Zealand, Newcastle, Perth, Albert Park, Winton and the Gold Coast are returning. The Bend is not on the schedule but there's a TBC round which could be that or Queensland Raceway, though Tony Quinn doesn't think it'll be ready to run next year. SMP will be the season finale with the Gold Coast running in October as opposed to December as was planned for this year. It looks like Bathurst will be the only enduro again unfortunately.

Grove Racing has signed Lee Holdsworth to drive their second car after deciding to put Matt Payne into Super2 for a full season. That should finalise the grid for the season.

Team Sydney is dead according to Speedcafe, it's been sold to drag racer Peter Xiberras who apparently previously owned one of their cars and sponsored the team.

Quote:
Team Sydney has officially changed hands, with PremiAir Hire managing director Peter Xiberras yesterday sealing the deal to purchase the Supercars squad from the Webb family.

Rumours had long circulated around a possible sale of the team formerly known as Tekno Autosports, although Jonathon Webb did his level best to quell such speculation in November.

But the deal is now done, with Xiberras set to reinvigorate, refresh and revive the team.

PremiAir Racing will represent a complete clean slate, the team no longer being based in Sydney.

There isn't any news on whether Coulthard or Jacobson will be staying at the team. Coulthard posted on the FB comments of the article that he wonders where the deal will leave him and that the article was how he found out about the sale, which is pretty messed up. It also came out today that Geoff Slater (one of the teams' previous engineers) is going to WAU to engineer for Nick Percat.

Newcastle is going to be postponed, season will start at Eastern Creek.

If you take Bathurst out, it means EC will have hosted something like 14 races in a row. Fucking stupid.

Imagine if F1 just gave up and did 7 races in Bahrain in a row. They had a few double headers but at least they attempted some variety with their replacements. Assuming Supercars doesn't want to deal with state borders, are there no other appropriate circuits in NSW?

Every supercar team is based in Vic, NSW or QLD, which are all virtually under the same conditions. So Supercars has PI (which isn't even the calendar which is so fkn stupid), Winton, Calder Park, Sandown, QR, Lakeside to chose from.

They must be on a "use our circuit 99 times and get the 100th free" deal with Eastern Creek.

I think they have some sort of deal with NSW to start/finish the championship there which is a bit dumb. Sandown would make more sense especially since it's currently scheduled for August and Perth is probably going to have to be postponed.

general note for those using Superview through YouTube, they've decided to use the level system - so make sure you select Superview 2022. It is a couple dollars more than last year as well ($7 USD).

Motor Trend is back for the US & Canada - like usual $5/USD a month & no practices or support races

also no coverage of Melbourne (prolly anywhere outside of Australia & New Zealand) because Liberty & F1 want money

Schedule for the weekend
https://www.supercars.com/sydney-supernight/2022-beaurepaires-sydney-supernight-schedule-and-results/

Hopefully they get the races in, it doesn't look like there's going to be huge amounts of rain but there was a lot earlier in the week so the ground is probably still pretty soaked.

We might as well use this thread to talk about all the down under racing this weekend, since I searched for the NZ speedworks thread and just found a Gaara post saying how there's not a NZ Speedworks thread:

Live stream from Pukekoe

Great side by side racing in Mazdas as I type this, it's like Daytona again

How come it didn't show up when I searched for that exact phrase and all I got was your post in another Speedworks thread that wasn't that, and a lot of BTCC stuff about the Speedworks team? :? :? :p

Oh well, Utes on now, over to the other thread ;)
