Might as well start the 2021 thread

Blanchard has apparently split from BJR and bought 23red's REC to start his own two car team

Reportedly Kayo will be streaming some Supercars events next year for free - https://www.speedcafe.com/2020/10/22/re ... -for-free/

Presumably this will be events other than the 7 that will be shown on Seven. Not sure if those are live or just highlights replays though?

Post subject:  Re: 2021 Oz Supercars & Supports

Those are C7's live events.

The previous 10/Foxtel deal was a bit shit as far as internet content was concerned. There was no free livestreaming (even for C10's live races), so if Kayo shows any of the races live for free it'll be something of an improvement. Ideally they'd start putting up full replays of recent races on YT like NASCAR does.

FTA has been garbage for years. Kayo should be competent.

Team Penske will split with Dick Johnson Racing following complications from the COVID-19 pandemic. Scott McLaighlin also departs the team, as he moves to the NTT IndyCar Series on a full-time basis in 2021

Well that was the worst kept secret ever. Interestingly they haven't said that Coulthard is staying on which suggests that the rumours about Will Davison and De Pasquale going there are true.

Well that blows big time. That was one of the best tracks in Australia.

I wouldn't be surprised if the other street circuits get cancelled as well since they're all reliant on government funding. Maybe Townsville might stay because there isn't any permanent track up there (although one is being built atm)

Damn, that was always an event I looked forward to.

So are we to understand its days were numbered even without the pandemic?

Shitty news, starting a Supercar season without Adelaide won't be the same :(

Maybe. The official attendance figures were lower then they used to be, this year it was only 200,000 combined over the four days (so 50,000 a day averaged) as opposed to around 250,000 in 2019 and higher back in the day.

It's also possible the state government just isn't that interested in (or can't financially justify) supporting racing in the city anymore now that Tailem Bend has been built, there was a mini-Goodwood event on a shorter version of the track which got cancelled due to a government funding cut last year.

Just received this a short time ago
Quote:
BREAKING NEWS
Labor announce they will bring back the Adelaide 500
South Australia's Labor Leader Peter Malinauskas flew to Sydney today and has signed an agreement with Supercars Australia CEO Sean Seamer to bring back the Adelaide 500.

Last week, Liberal Premier Steven Marshall shocked South Australia when he announced he had cancelled the 2021 race and scrapped the contract for future races.

The decision has drawn widespread criticism across the community. The motorsport industry is in shock, motorsport fans are devastated, and hundreds of local hospitality and tourism business are counting the cost of lost revenue from the axing one of the state’s biggest events.

But Peter Malinauskas has announced that, if elected, a State Labor Government will bring back the Adelaide 500, providing a premier supercars event for South Australians.

Could be interesting to see if he fufills this promise should he win the next election.
