Despite a global pandemic & scheduling change after months of uncertainity, the Mount Panorama Circuit hosts the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 for the 58th time on the 3rd weekend of October.

Like the other major motorsport events that have occured since March, this year will see a different atmosphere to say the least with limited spectators & no camping allowed due to the pandemic.

This year also sees a uncertain long-term future for Supercars as we know it with a new set of regulations on the way, the future being unclear on if Penske returns with DJR for 2021 and with Holden entering the 1000 for the final time as a official manufacturer. While many things are unknown for the future, it is known that REPCO will sponsor next year's race, and that Channel 7 will return as the official free-to-air TV broadcaster in 2021.

A new safety car rule in regards to lapped cars with be introduced at the 1000 this year, which appears to be similar to F1's safety car rules & NASCAR's lucky dog / wave around system.

25 cars will be taking to the grid between the 24 full-time competitors in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, as well as a wildcard entry by Garry Rogers Motorsport. The wildcard entry has seen some controversy as Nathan Herne's superlicense application was rejected by Motorsport Australia.

Supporting this year's 1000 includes the Dunlop Super2 Series / Super3 Series, the Toyota 86 Racing Series, Aussie Tin Tops & Combined Historics.

For the 4th time in the circuit's history, Bathurst will host the grand final for the Australian Touring Car Championship. Like this year, 2 of those featured the 1000 as the Grand Final back in 1999 & 2000 - while the first was the singular ATCC title race back in 1966. The title has already been locked up by Scott McLaughlin, however there is still some close battles in the midfield.

Race Information:
Track Type & Length: 6.213 kilometer natural terrain street circuit
Turns: 23 turns
Race Distance: 161 laps / 1000 kilometers
Track Record (Supercars): Scott McLaughlin, 2017, 2:03.8312

The whole idea of "superlicenses" is stupid, regardless what series it is

but they do need a minimum requirement such as a ROP type test (w/ eval by several current & former drivers) to make sure your ready, because we've seen how very minimum seat time / check cleared type limits work in other series too

official release, the channel will start following F1 coverage from the Nurburgring with a Holden Tribute on Monday. Classic races are only from the start of the modern V8 Supercar era (1997+) once again.
