Mike Smith winning a BTCC race here is a great little statistic. Had no idea he had a win

For the uninitiated, he was a TV presenter who presented Top of the Pops amongst other things. Was good friends with Noel Edmonds (who also drove in the BTCC years ago)

Edmonds racing in the series is a misconception no doubt started by the old BTCC site, where he was listed amongst the historic drivers. He actually raced production saloons and won his class in a race at Snetterton in 1974. Incidentally, that series would later be sponsored by Radio 1, where Edmonds was a DJ.

Ah I had no idea. Yes, I got that from the old BTCC site years ago. I was watching Noel's Le Mans Dream on YouTube a few years ago where he briefly mentioned his former racing career

So weird how he was one of the biggest TV presenters of the late 80s/early 90s then just vanished

Alan Partridge must've been based on people like him

Is this the first time in a long time the BTCC has gone back to back btw?
Since they race 10 rounds spread out over seven months it's not really been necessary before.
Certainly caught me off guard until I saw some social media posts about Brands being THIS weekend

I normally bitch about how the BTCC shouldn't race on the same weekends as F1, but good luck finding one of them to have to yourself this year

The Minis are going to be mental this weekend. 49 entries, of which "only" 46 could qualify.

Kind of weird seeing BTCC cars kicking up dust on the GP loop. Usually they're churning up mud

God knows how Ollie Jackson managed to stick it in 3rd! Only 0.055 covering the top 4.

Stupid block by Cammish off the start, he nearly did a full Simoni/Plato into the inside wall over the nose of Jackson
