I think he is speaking of IndyCars at Surfers.

Damn. It was truly epic though. Sideways through the whole corner. I hope they show it during V8 Extra or something.

Well better enjoy it while it lasts then, I guess.

If IndyCar and CCWS didn't die for all those years opposed, with 15 car grids, it isn't going to die now.
And, I think it will remain on the GC.

You obviously don't watch much Indycar, do you?

I've actually watched every race this year, and all CCWS races, crap as they were, for the last 5 years.

Just a few statistics on crowd figures for Indy these past few years at Surfers Paradise. 5% may not sound like a lot but that's nearly 17,000 people that didn't attend compared to past years. The main thing that changed was the ticket prices and one can assume that's because IRL was there. Since IRL was there it also meant less on track sessions as they ran different formats compared to champcar. The whole event timetable fitted together perfectly with champcar. As soon as a session finished the next one came out. There were was a huge gap in Sundays timetable. They finished at 5 this year compared to 6pm last year. They just didn't gel together like the champcars did.

2008 - 297,288
2007 - 314,000
2006 - 312,054
2005 - 316,459
2004 - 309,583

Personally thought it was quite a good race, some awesome battles through the field and a nice pressure finish. But thats just me and my positive outlook I suppose :(

Being positive about IRL is forbidden.

IRL has been rubbish all year, and don't let the fact an Australian won blur your vision, that was a crap race.

Its a terrible series, not popular, being marketted incorrectly, and thats the beginning. Why do think guys like Villeneuve, Hornish, Franchitti chose NASCAR over IRL? Even the lack of interest is growing here, just see how Mark Beretta pronounced "Rahal Letterman" He called it RAAAL

And the race won't be back next year, its already been stripped of its race. Last talks they were trying to get DTM (of all series) to get there.

I don't really care that an Aussie won, I care that we had a field with depth in it.

A race with heaps of messy passing manouvres because the field has no talent is not what I call entertainment.
For me, Sunday's race, a straight, pressure fight between Ganassi and Penske was most enjoyable.

And I would say that on the whole for a series that is rebounding, 2008 has been good to watch.

I am most aware that 95% of the motorsport public in US don't give a shit and the reason that Franchitti etc. were moving to NASCAR was a) the money is there, and b) they left at the end of 2007 when both series were still in disarray and with no end to the madness in sight.

I think there was a sum total of 2 overtakes for the whole race.

So? was still some great battles which didn't lead to moves. not my loss, i enjoyed it, you didn't so I suppose I don't see it as a wasted weekend of motorsport viewing.

I found it entertaining. But then again I was about a metre or two from Moraes hitting the barrier, 30m from Power binning it and just entering the photographer area when Franchitti spun. I also spent time at T5 dodging bits of paint being flicked at me lol.

Good race once again in Surfers Paradise.

Too bad that IRL and Trackforum members are so stupid and don't want the race :(

The race is an indy car staple. It should remain on the schedule.

I've just finished watching the race. That was a very entertaining one.

And Channel 7 coverage was miles better than all the ESPN/ABC coverage i've seen all year.

yep, probably the best race of the year. The end of Chicago wasn't bad either.

And yeah, it's nice not to hear scott goodyear and marty talking!

Would be, however A1 needs to stay put and ride out this financial crisis because it is in deep shit already as it is.

I fear the IRL will prove their incompetence once again and drop Surfers. When is an announcement due, anyway?

Yeah, A1 is shit anyway, they had what, 17 cars at Zandvoort? Half the drivers are amateur anyway.

I've been waiting so long for Penske/Ganassi/AGR to return.
Pity Forsythe couldn't be there too.
