Matt Neal got the crowd going again. Rapturous applause when he had his problem, probably exaggerated because it benefited Collard, the local man, and sarcastic cheering when he came back out of the pits.

Welp, Thruxton fans are Kinda dicks :(

He went from 33rd to 10th in race 3, what more does he need to do?

Be a reasonably nice person?
Be less of an obnoxious dick?
Be the Matt Neal from the late 90's that was likeable?
Be someone that owns up to his own mistakes rather than blaming others around him?

Take your pick.

People who think fans shouldn't boo people they dislike in sporting are the worst.

I think the world is negative enough thank you very much, reveling in negativity seems to be something we all do way, way too much

But I can say that in a race where Plato didn't even start.

I've never seen anything in Neil to dislike other than that he's a bit boring and maybe the smuggest man in motorsports. Besides that he's honest, is no worse than the average btcc driver for turfing people off/taking the blame, and he has had the longest run of consistently good form in the sport which he doesn't really get credit for. In the btcc hate list (besides Plato, goes without saying) I still find Collard so much more unbearable.

Collard, Plato, Chilton are the tri-fecta of hate.

Neal picked up on it for being the one driver in the way of the Plato fanclub in the 2000s era, so every time Plato nerfed him off, he copped the blame
The main difference between Neal and Plato back then was Neal's dodgy collisions were attempts at genuine overtakes gone wrong, whereas Plato's were just blatent "Off you go" heel taking someone off deliberately.

Not that that mattered to Plato nation.

Yes but no. You're continued defense of Neal is laughable and quite cringeworthy. It is also very blinkered. You always blindly acknowledge Plato as a bad guy yet Neal as a saint. Which it is plain to see he isn't. Neal and Plato are very alike in their aggression and the way they drive. The difference is Plato intentionally plays the pantomime bad guy (which he has admitted) whereas Neal goes around pointing fingers at his fellow competitors in the paddock when it is obvious he is at fault. Let's look at Thruxton 2016 as just one example. A lot of Plato and Neal's incidents between them have been 50/50.

As drivers they are both amazing, as personalities they are love/hate types. I'm glad they are in the sport at the same time because otherwise the BTCC would be too vanilla. As for those three being the trifecta of hate? Yeah, you're on your own with that one.

Yes true'ish, during that interview after race three when it appeared he was made to eat some humble pie for his prior comments about Josh Cook.

Your continued insistence that Neal is as bad as Plato and not a saint is laughable and quite cringeworthy :p

TBH I'm much more invigorated by the Ashley Suttons of the sport atm, I think the BTCC needs to stop trading on the same old names from the 90s and start building stars of the future, and Sutton especially is one of them IMO

Neal and especially Plato need to be looking towards retirement now IMO, I'm probably a fan of Neal in the same way I'm the tired old Champcar fan, mainly for nostalgia reasons (though somehow Neal manages to pull out at least one or two good meetings a season)

Andy Rouse retired the year after his 60th career victory, maybe Neal will be emulating that soon. In terms of Plato, I know the Subaru program is mostly of his doing so would he voluntarily stand down or maybe give up considering how poor his season has been so far?

Probably phoning up Mclaren Honda for a chat about ideas that seemed like a good idea at the time....

Mind you, his team mates don't seem to be having such a bad time of it...

Well Sutton yes, but Cole and Price no as they are both rooted to the bottom of the points table both having failed to collect any points so far with neither finishing higher in any race than 21st.

Yeaa Sutton's the only one who seems to have sussed the car and can handle it.

I'd say Neal and Plato will be out there for as long as they enjoy it. Which I guess Plato can't be enjoying it much.

Plato is going through the Alonso phase.
There's only complete recovery, or the final Hill phase before retirement.

Jason Plato <=> Fernando Alonso???

Wow, don't ever tell JP that comparison as his head is big enough as it is.

I said "phase" not that he was as good ;)

Perhaps that is Plato's problem this year, his head has become so big trying to contain his over inflated ego that the car is so top heavy and overweight that even Fat Joey from TWD could make it go quicker.
