That race was completely insane. It's a cliche but that whole weekend was like something out of a movie. I would not have believed what happened if I had been told about it this morning.

Scotty fucked up today but he also got fucked over, mainly at that restart where he got run into. I feel like that slowed him down and made it more difficult to overtake the two GRM cars. And if Scotty was in fact under the speed limit then that was the one of the most bullshit moments in motorsport history and I am never watching again. That's a lie, I'm just imititating many TBK members after they've seen another shit boring modern NASCAR race.

The other unfortunate thing is that had Scotty got to the end at Bathurst instead of blowing an engine, he would have won the title despite all the crap that happened today. Oh well, I'm sure he'll win some more.

Team orders in a championship deciding round should be penalised, at least as harshly as marginal pit speeding. I hope Craig enjoys being remembered as the Steve Soper of Supercars.

Properly gutted for Scotty, he's been the class of the field all year and it seems like it was his Bathust problems that let everyone else catch up

That race will be talked about for many years to come, kept me awake after staying up until 6am. Riveting stuff

Scott M had a combination of fucking things up himself and having other people fuck him up, but as others have said, he's got the talent to ensure this isn't his last championship fight, and he'll probably win a few of them before too long

All the racing was pretty epic this weekend, what a great new track Newcastle has made for us all...

Funny thing is, it was a Ford outbraking himself on the restart that really damaged McLaughlins car.

Without that damage he'd have probably gotten past the two GRM cars sooner and wouldn't have been in the position to make the mistake that allowed Lowndes to get alongside.

Also, what's the deal with Greg Rust, I was half asleep by the time they did a montage on him and he was getting teary, why's he leaving?

Apparently he's probably getting dropped for Mark Larkham, which is a shame because Rusty is a good broadcasters and he and Murphy are a solid partnership for the Super2 races. Certainly better then Skaife and Crompton these days I think. Larkham is brilliant for analysis but I don't know if he's ever even tried to be a full-on commentator. Frankly they'd be better of with both of them.

David Reynolds got the best and fairest, Will Brown got the Young Gun award and Neil Crompton got inducted into the hall of fame. All of them are deserving winners.

What a finale! A shame to see that personality-less bore win again but McLaughlin threw it away.

https://www.speedcafe.com/2017/11/30/hazelwood-graduates-supercars-msr/

Todd Hazelwood is headed to the big series, bringing Matt Stone's team with him. They'll be running an ex-DJR Falcon using Bright's REC which will be owned by former team owner James Rosenberg.

Quote:
The Matt Stone Racing driver and his family have notably grafted together funding to supplement his racing budget through sausage sizzles, with the outcome a reward for persistence from all concerned.

“I think it’s just taking a lifetime of punches along the way,” Hazelwood responded when asked how he bounced back from his Sandown disappointment, a weekend which also including a horrifying rollover in a Sandown 500 qualifying race.

“You soon learn to build a thick skin over the years and motorsport certainly teaches that at a young age so after Sandown I was pretty fired up and to come to this weekend knowing we had a mathematical chance at winning the title.

“We put every single bit of resource into it that was possible to achieve that. That really comes down to the team at Matt Stone Racing and the amount of work that they’ve done behind the scenes.

“I suppose that’s the ultimate reward,” he added when asked about his family’s support.

“I said to them back in 2014 that we’d achieve this, and you always say you will but until you’ve actually done it, it’s hard to take in.

“Obviously it’s well-documented how incredible my family have been to get to this point, it’s certainly not the most financially well-off family but we were probably the hardest-working team family out there.

“We stuck together as a group and we haven’t looked back.

“There have been a lot of opportunities where we could have just put our hand up and taken a year off or take the easy route and miss a couple of rounds but we’ve done every round since 2014 even though we’ve effectively been up s**t creek sometimes.

“Without them I wouldn’t be here today, that’s for sure.”

It's good to see Todd's hard work paying off, and it's nice to see the Stone family back in the main series.

Some good young drivers racing next year, which is great to see.

Whenever there are less pay-drivers, it can only be good for the sport.

Heimgartner will be replacing Todd Kelly, and...

Davison has been officially confirmed at the 23RED team. This leaves only the Tekno car and the remaining Prodrive entry to have their drivers confirmed.

If only NASCAR would've done the same for a few of the BS speeding penalties they've handed out over the years to people like Montoya or others that weren't one of the good ol' boys

Sad thing is, even if DJR is found to be correct they won't be given the win (it's not permitted under the regs).

On a brighter note, Stanaway has finally been confirmed at Prodrive.

So Earl Bamber to partner Shane VG in the Enduros, that's going to be a potent combo

Spot the mistake in the new Aussie Sports Sedan rules.
