What about David Addison ? He is a pretty good commentator for the F1 in Cinema coverage, and I think he is the circuit commentator for the BTCC events (?) so he might get a job as BTCC commentator on ITV. :)

Would be awful.

James has worked in F1 for so long that maybe (and hopefully) he decides if he can't have F1 he might as well have nothing.

If he can't have Lewis he don't want anybody else

He was on Best of Havoc II, wasn't he?

Addison is ok, but his habit of calling years 'twenty oh eight' instead of 'two thousand and eight' irritates me.

I dont mind Addison tbh. The races he commentates on I usually enjoy. But I would quite like to see Hindhaugh. Wouldnt mind that one bit.

And for the love of god, dont give James Allen the role. I would personally march down to ITV's headquaters and thump the guy that made that decision.

They should just use the circuit commentary on the TV coverage. Ian Titchmarsh rarely misses things and Alan Hyde is great in the pits; and they both work quite well together. :D

Anyway, I'll be going this weekend. Can't wait.

Maybe Allen might move to the cinema coverage.

Has anyone here actually been to their cinema to watch a GP?

It always seemed to be too much of a risk to me - imagine paying £15 to get this years European GP! Apparently the onboards are pretty cool though...

Some spectacular cars there. Its unlikely, but I wander if ITV will show any of the laps.

And just as a suggestion. Would it be better maybe to create a Random Discussion thread for the BTCC, as a lot of the stuff in this thread so far hasnt really been about the meeting itself, more about TV coverage and such.

I'm fed up with David Addison, he gets everywhere.

Pretty much everything Sky show that's not live is voiced over by him (since he co-owns the production company..), he also does a Formula Palmer Audi and a few other things on Motors TV.

As well as doing the BTCC circuit commentary he also managed to squeeze in the Renault World Series event at Silverstone, the Silverstone Classic circuit commentary and was the English language commentator for the Zolder F3 Masters...

And the twenty-oh-eight thing annoys me too, he's been doing it at least since twenty-oh-two when I first heard him at the BTCC at Doningon.
I guess he thinks he is forward thinking and we'll all switch to his way of thinking in Twenty-Ten.
(I don't think I want to say two thousand and ten anyway...)

I doubt it'll come to anyone getting the BTCC, though. Croft is probably the favourite for the F1 role. The BBC love self-promotion :(

From the BBC coverage thread at Atlas:

D.M.N. wrote:
He (Allen) will (thank god) have no interaction with the BBC coverage. For those who like BTCC, you will be happy to know that it will remain on ITV, and James Allen will likely play no part in that.

Very much so. I was working on the assumption that even if we did get rid of him from the F1 coverage that he'd pop up elsewhere.

no thanks all he would do is go on about Dan Wheldon. Even back in 1996 when he was a pit reported for ABC for the US 500 all he reported on was Mark Blundell.

Three more ex-champions, and Steve Neal, have been confirmed for Sunday.
