They could alter the layout of QR pretty easily too. Sure there's bugger all character to the place but it wouldn't take much to try something different and maintain what's a pretty decent spectator circuit. Send 'em through the lake! Problem is the owners of the place just don't give a shit and don't put much if any cash into the place. Hell, they didn't even bother to rectify the curb issue which saw punctures last season as well as this weekend, and those are potential safety concerns too.

I remember that Turn 3 kerb used to be taller - it took 2 massive flips for them to lower it

The track doesn't have a CAMS licence, and part of the deal to re-open the track in 2008 meant that it has strict noise limits to basically ensure small club meetings are all that can be held there.

The owners of the track are the Government.

The track also doesn't have a CAMS licence. The only CAMS-sanctioned event it holds each year is the V8Supercar round, it gets a temporary licence for that one event. All the other meetings at the track are AASA meetings.

Not entirely correct Re QR and CAMS, they also hold the Shannons Nationals there each year (this weekend to be exact).

I have contacts in the QR camp and the rest of what you have said is fairly on the money.

Both tracks are leased from the Government by Qld Raceways.

Lakeside has a 96db noise limit for all events due to neighbouring property and is way to small to host a V8 Supercar sized round without very significant infrastructure investment which are the two main reasons the track will never hold a v8 round again.

Such infrastructure improvements cannot be made without violating the tracks heritage listing aswell which is why the rusty and rotten bridge remains over the back of the circuit.

I never knew QR didn't have a full CAMS license.

Good point, that had crept over me. I recall one of the sticking points a year or two ago on QR staying on the V8Supercars calendar was the fact QR didn't want to fork out for a CAMS licence they barely used. Perhaps the Government covered that in the deal for QR to stay on the calendar with the renewal of the GC600 deal.

One could argue that is just as much a V8Supercar management problem as it is a Lakeside problem ;)

I may be wrong, but wasn't QR's original idea to put a hill on the back straight or something?

Possibly was, something like a Calder style "Bob Jane Mountain" could have been an idea. Mark Oastler proposed in "Australian Muscle Car Magazine" a few years back an over/under bridge halfway down the back straight, with the track going over a bridge between turns 2 & 3 and linking up with the current run from 3-4 in the opposite direction, thus making Turn 3 a left hander. The track would then go back under the bridge and rejoin the track on the approach to the current turn 4.

The original plans for the track also had a Pukekohe style opening sequence of corners, before they ended up deciding on a straight run to what is now Turn 2.

Since no-one's mentioned it, why isn't there a tyre barrier on the outside of turn 3? Pye & Reynolds had a couple of unnecessarily big impacts there.

The #9 Erebus Merc also has a new livery:

Bluebird retro looks great, Erebus a bit tacky imo, could have been incorporated a little better. Glad they have a solid sponsor though.

On the downside, they also axed SPEEDTV, so while there will be more V8s on Foxtel next year (well, obviously), there probably won't be as much international racing on.

It'll all just go to the new Fox Sports 4 and 5 channel.

Sounds like Crompton and Rust will be commentating with Matt White.

Crompton is great, so is that pit reporter whose name I can't remember right now. The guy who usually does all those strategy bits before each race, he's the best there is.

Don't care about the rest.
