Meh. Didn't see race 1 or 2, but judging by race 3 and the comments from earlier I'd say BTCC works better on the shorter layout...

Yeaa because the longer circuit takes out the best overtaking spot.

Plato isn't going to keep that position, is he, or is that one of the deals that everyone but Plato would get penalized for?

Yeah, with the Island circuit you've got 2 big breaking points (Island and Lodge) which act as overtaking spots and prevent the cars from spreading out. The banked hairpin and first chicane on the International circuit aren't enough themselves and spread the cars out

It's like Imola for F1 - undoubtedly a great circuit in the past, but too many chicanes and not enough overtaking spots to produce good racing. I'd be surprised if we saw the International layout used again for a while

First chicane in particular is crap. Horrible, fiddly little thing.

It was good when it was the only chicane, but now that we have Hizzy's, there's no need for it anymore.

It's not very often that you have BTCC, WTCC & F1 on the same weekend and BTCC ends up being the least entertaining. They'll probably move back to the Island layout next year.

A bit of trivia: Árón Smith's win today was the first win for a Volkswagen since John Morris won the season opener at Mallory Park in 1981.

EDIT: Plato has been penalised for his move on Turkington.

Well those races happened.

I'm not sure why racing on the full circuit was worse than the Island configuration. There's only a small difference and on the shorter circuit drivers tend to defend hard going into the hairpin (I've mentioned this in past year's) lap after lap, and the only way a pass happens is when the attacking driver does what Plato did to Turks in race 3. And that said, TOCA / Gow normally let's that kind of thing go on the Island circuit but put Plato back behind Turkington after race 3. How odd.

Funcup raced on Fosters in April and it seemed to be a much better, livelier race than when they use the full configuration..
Perhaps it's because the cars get less strung out?

Will very likely revert back next year.

Though the fact Palmer is looking at track changes is rather worrying.

Yeah, well, Palmer was also intending to turn GHB into a hairpin.

I would be amazed if he had permission to touch 90% of the circuit seeing as it's mostly surrounded by a wood and a lake.

A hairpin called "Palmer's Penis"... unattractive, unnecessary, unwanted, lacks creativity and creates no opportunities.

So the hairpin got to be short and stumpy rather than the hairpin at the old Avus circuit for example....

Well if Palmer's plan at Brands is anything to go by... :slaphead:
