I remember the full-field reverse grid races they used to do being quite chaotic.

05 was the closest championship battle of that period (with I think three in contention going into the final round) and had a pretty memorable Bathurst. It also had fairly big fields (like 32-34 at every race iirc) even though the part-timers were gone by then. 03 also went down to the final round I think and was probably the year the two makes were the closest.

In 01-02 the Commodores basically smashed the AU Falcons and the championship was a total blowout both years, but there was still a few decent races iirc. I would watch 99 or 00 over those since the championship was a bit closer and the sprint races were quite short, usually only around 50 kilometres or so.

After a couple months of speculation Supercars has announced that the introduction of the new cars has been delayed to August 2022.

While covid has been officially blamed the real reason is that planning and development apparently fell behind schedule in the early part of this year, leading to concerns from many teams that they wouldn't be able to get their cars built by the start of next season. It was only recently confirmed that prototype testing will begin within the next month or two and there was not much official information about what was happening with the new cars until after a crisis meeting was held with teams a few weeks back.

How next season is going to work exactly with a new generation of cars being introduced mid-year (presuming they don't get delayed to 23) has not yet been announced.

I thought it was a joke when the rumors first started, but it's official......

Erebus Motorsport has confirmed it will field Greg Murphy and Richie Stanaway in a Boost Mobile-backed wildcard at this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000.

I always rooted for Murphy, so I'm happy to see this.

Also happy to see 2+ wildcards now entered, more cars the better for the 1000

Has Stanaway done anything since he quit GRM? I thought he was retiring from motorsport.

Nope, only apart from sim racing, he'd pretty much washed his hands of motorsports from what I can gather

Few drivers ever really retire. Remember Van Gisbergen "retiring" at the end of his stint at SBR?

It's come close a few times (there were reports of snow in pit lane early in this clip)

Mostert signs a contract extension with WAU (apparently until the end of 2023). This takes him out of the running to replace Whincup which had been a bit of a rumour:

The grid is going to increase to 25 cars next year, with Tickford obtaining a 4th REC. This will mean that Tom Randle moves full-time into the series. Matt Stone's team also put in a bid for a 26th REC but it seems that some other teams must have been unhappy with the extra cars so it was knocked back.

That demo looked rather rehearsed as usual.

Welp DePasquale (from pole) got turned at the first corner and 6+ cars got caught up.

Both Team Sydney cars wrecked, two BJR cars wrecked, both Team 18 cars damaged and DePasquale is out too. Whincup got sent to the back of the pack.

Pye got the curb on the inside and hit DePasquale.

Rattle gun issues for SVG. He was leading but he's literally last car on the lead lap now...
