OK, it's very busy motorsport weekend now. F1, WRC and also MotoGP along many lesser series.

This time, MotoGP makes its Japanese visit early in the season, instead of traditional late-season slot. Motegi held Japanese GP early in 1999, but since then it had been late season, and Suzuka held a race early in 2000-2003 until that race was dropped after track was considered too dangerous for bikes following Daijiro Kato's fatal accident.

Today's qualifying sessions for all three classes of the Japanese MotoGP round at Motegi have been delayed due to heavy rain.

The 125cc session was first to be postponed and is now scheduled to run after the 250cc class has qualified, and now the MotoGP session has been delayed by at least an hour. A further decision is due to be made at 15:00 local time (7am BST).

Colin Edwards, who set the quickest time today's earlier wet practice session, agreed that there is too much water on the circuit to run any sessions.

"Conditions are unridable at the moment," said Edwards. "Obviously the track has a lot of standing water but it's not just that. If you crash, it's so wet on the grass that you're just going to accelerate."

If conditions do not improve and the sessions are unable to be run today, the grids will be set by each riders' fastest times during the weekend's practice sessions. In the premier class, that would be the order from Friday practice - the only dry session to be held so far.

125cc race halfway, started on damp track but not raining anymore.

Danny Webb leads but he's on wets, Simon on slicks 2nd 9 seconds behind.

Few laps to go in 250cc. Bautista leads ahead of H.Aoyama

Lots of crashes, including Locatelli, Cluzel (together), di Meglio, Faubel and Wilairot who seemed to be injured, was taken to ambulance straight away. Simoncelli had tyre failure.

Really great for Lorenzo in many ways, most of all his confidence. Tough race for Stoner and Ducati, I really don't think that bike is good enough to take on the Yamaha.

Excellent race by Lorenzo, hopefully the championship stays as close as it is now all year.
