Race 1 was completely fantastic, thrilling all the way through and some real violent racing! The Eurosport studio team this weekend is brilliant too: Carl Fogarty, Neil Hodgson and James Haydon alongside Tony Carter.

Disappointed for Laverty and Sykes though, that Kawasaki was looking especially good.

Also Maxime Berger's crash is the most incredible thing I've ever seen in bike racing.

Luckily it happened at slow speed. Had he lost it at Craner the resulting crash would have been absolutely massive.

All that I know is that he raced in race 2 and even scored some points (14th if I'm not mistaken). He may be injured but it's nothing preventing him from riding.

Apparently Maxime Berger's accident was caused by his rear wheel completely shattering. Not exactly a common occurrence.

I will be at the Assen track this weekend for 2 days

It even became a better weekend when I just found out that Dutch rider Barry Veneman will replace BMW's James Toseland, who is out because of an injury. So let's see what Barry can show us on home soil. He normally rides a BMW in Dutch and German superbikes and he wants at least 1 podium finish this weekend!

I will post some pictures of practise, Super Pole and the races right after the weekend...

Tristan Lentink, involved in the very serious start accident during a support race of the Dutch TT MotoGP weekend in 2010, will be starting in the SuperStock 600 race tomorrow. He qualified 13th after the first qualifying session.

Qualifying for World SBK is underway at the moment, let's see what Veneman can do with his BMW :)

SMrz took the Pole for now, in front of Biaggi and Melandri. Veneman only could get a 15th place @ 1.6 sec. behind Smrz.

Jonathan Rea took provisional pole in the dying seconds of 2nd qualifying, 2 hundredths of a second ahead of Jakub Smrz who had led the session for almost its entire duration. Biaggi is in 3rd, followed by a surprisingly fast Corser and then Nori Haga. Carlos Checa spent most of the session down in 13th place, he ended up half a second off the pace in 9th place after a slightly faster lap with 5 minutes to go. Stand-in rider Barry Veneman crashed during this morning's session but was unhurt, he misses out on Superpole with a final position of 19th on the grid.

The whole field is separated by less than 2 seconds and Checa seems to be struggling, which all bodes well for the rest of the weekend.

final free practise starting right now. I'm at the first row of the grandstand going into the final chicane. Best spot to take pictures. This morning I only saw Veneman get up an being brought back to the paddock. I missed the crash...

Super Pole part 1: Fabrizio, Xaus, Guintoli and Badovini out...

Saw the crash, my camera was not filming though... He went too wide through 'duikersloot' rear wheel lost grip and with a small highsider he got into the graveltrap

wow you were there too? Where were you at that moment? I was @ "de Bult". Saw Biaggi's crash only on the big screens and during Supersport Qualifying and Superstock 600 race 2 guys crashed @ "Ramshoek" at high speed with one bike ending up in the fence. All riders though escaped unhurt.
Sperstock 600 race was won by Dutchman Michael van der Mark riding for the Ten Kate Junior Team.
Another brilliant first race, Jonathan Rea wins from Max Biaggi and Carlos Checa. Sykes and Laverty started off strongly but faded, and Leon Haslam recovered after a crash to finish 14th and score 2 points. Leon Camier's bike had two mechanical failures, and the Effenbert Liberty Ducatis took each other out when Smrz highsided and collected Guintoli at the chicane.
