Official entry list published this morning

27 full-time WSB riders (25 for Phillip Island as the Bimota isn't homologated yet). A good improvement on last year's regular grid of 19.

Interestingly the WSS grid has shrunk from 38 riders to just 23 this year.

Sylvain Guintoli in pole and a stellar performance by Davide Giugliano in second. First 5 riders (both Aprilai and Suzuki riders and Giugliano) in 0.4 seconds.

The fastest of the EVO bikes (Canepa) is only 1.2 seconds off pole position, in 10th place. Tom Sykes 8th after crashing without consequences while he was setting his best lap.

In WSS, dominant pole for Kenan Sofuoglu in front of Van der Mark and Tamburini.

Racing was great, WSB races were slightly anticlimactic but seeing several manufacturers at the front is always good.

TV direction and camerawork was terrible all weekend though!

Felt really bad when Van der Mark fell down. We finally have a dutch fighting for wins in a topclass in motorsport and this happens :(. Anyway looking forward to his season, he looks to have made some massive progress.

He will be one of the title contenders. His last season was plagued by injuries.

got unlucky, same for safogalu and Wilairot all experianced the rear tyre problems. Van der Mark will probably be happier seeing safogalu crash as well that's his main title challenger i'd imagine.

Well Dorna, just tell us you want to erase WSBK from history and pretend it never happened.

Is Dorna even the owner of those rights? Like F1 rights aren't from FOM before a certain time?

I believe they acquired licensing rights from the Flammini Group, who took over in 1993. Which kind of sucks since Dorna had such a feud with the Flamminis and are now free to manipulate the history of the championship as they wish.

I just re-launched my WSB site, now updated with qualifying and race results for every race 1988 to 2014, profiles and race history for every rider and photos from various races in the 90s. Have a look at it, let me know what you think.

Meanwhile, on YouTube:

Sylvain Barrier suffered an horrific car crash and was kept in an artificial coma for some days.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, he has since awakened, but he suffered serious facial fractures and is in need of specialized surgery. Sources from Bmw Italia say he will be out for at least three months.

Weird incident in Superpole today - Jeremy Guarnoni's engine exploded as he crossed the start line and part of the casing flew off and smashed into one of the pitboards being shown to a following rider.

Looks like the clutch disc took off at full speed. That's a potentially life threatening situation, luckily nobody was injured.
