The Ducatis are pathetic as always. RIP Crutchlow's career.

It's hard to feel sorry for him though. If he were purely interested in finishing as close to the front as possible he should/would have stayed at Tech 3. He desperately wanted a factory ride, probably for the money, and he got what he wanted.

For completeness' sake, here are the times from the final day. Looks like the Yamahas closed the gap a little bit, and Dovizioso finally took over as fastest Ducati rider from Iannone on the satellite bike. The Espargaró brothers are both looking good considering one is a rookie and the other one is on an open class bike. The "open" Honda seems to be a dog though.

Ducati about to make the move to Open Class..

Quote:
Ducati admits interest in switch to MotoGP's Open class

Ducati has admitted taking an active interest in MotoGP's Open class as it evaluates whether to remain a factory entrant in 2014.

Speculation that the Italian marque could make a radical switch ahead of this year's championship was instigated when new Ducati Corse general manager Luigi Dall'Igna said the Open class was "the future of MotoGP".

Ducati's MotoGP project manager Paolo Ciabatti said the team was not dismissing the possibility of running in the sport's second class, and bringing its status as a factory effort to an end.

He said Aleix Espargaro's pace on the Open class Forward FTR-Yamaha had been particularly compelling, after the Spaniard finished fourth overall in pre-season testing at Sepang.

"Obviously the option of the Open class is an interesting one," Ciabatti told the official MotoGP website.

"We saw Aleix on the FTR-Yamaha has been extremely fast so obviously it's something to consider, but we haven't made any decision.

"We will evaluate all the information.

"This was the first time our riders could use the GP14. Some areas we need to improve, but it is positive.

"We will evaluate and make up our minds in the next few weeks."

While Open class entries must run spec ECUs and software, they benefit from a number of rule breaks compared to factory entries.

They are permitted to use an extra four litres of fuel per race, run on softer Bridgestone compounds and are permitted 12 engines across the season compared to just five for factory teams, with engine development also allowed during the season.

Ducati will run at least one Open entry in 2014, for Pramac satellite rider Yonny Hernandez.

Cal Crutchlow has made probably the worst move ever. Ducati really needs to get their shit together, maybe a year as a development team can help with that. But seriously AUDI needs to put some effort in their brand.

Ducati potentially moving to the Open Class has been on the cards for some time though. It is not necessarily a bad thing considering the series could head in that direction permanently in the near future.

I still don't understand why the heavily-restricted spec-ECU class is called 'Open'.

Indeed ChiliFan, it is a bit of a contradiction.

Congratulations BT on doing the only thing that could get me watching MotoGP again. Keith and Julian are the best.

MotoGP world Champion Marc Marquez broke his fibula during a dirt-track training session yesterday afternoon.

'Marc was immediately taken to the Universitario Quirón Dexeus Hospital where Dr. Xavier Mir treated the spiral fracture of the distal third of his right fibula,' said a statement from the Repsol Honda team.

'After carrying out a CT scan and X-ray, Dr. Mir confirmed, “The results showed no ligament damage or dislocation and no need to proceed with surgery. I expect he will need 3-4 weeks to fully recover”

'Marc has already started rehabilitation with magnetic therapy. He will remain non-weight bearing for two weeks, meaning he will certainly miss next week's Sepang test and possibly the following week in Phillip Island, Australia. Full recovery is expected for the Qatar MotoGP race on 23 March.'

Gutted.... After his incredible pace @ Sepang 1 was looking forward to next week, not good to miss so much pre season, however wasn't to bad for him in 2012 when he missed most pre season.
But bad news :(

I find it amazing that someone can recover from such an injury in that small a period of time. Fingers crossed it won't hamper him too much.

Oh that sucks for him. I wouldn't be suprised that despite a slow start he might clinch the title again.

If the press release isn't overly optimistic and recovery goes as expected I think he'll be back to his winning ways come Qatar. :)

Telefónica MoviStar will return this year as Yamaha's sponsor. Always thought they had a great livery.
