Well, let's face it, Zarco's last year's heroics caught everyone by surprise. He was doing better than anyone anticipated. Yeah, he was a two-time Moto2 champion but a late bloomer when compared to the buzz Marquez and P.Espargaro got when they were there.

Anyway, this should be Rossi's last contract. The entry list opens again for the 2021 season and it's widely speculated his VR46 team joins the MotoGP field for 2021 and he stays there as team boss. That's why Tech 3 bolted from Yamaha for KTM. Ponchoral second-guessed VR46 will take his Yamaha satellite entry spot and he's gonna be hang out to dry.

Totally agree.

Rossi is a cash cow for MotoGP and they will do anything possible to keep him riding in the sport for as long as possible. It's also no secret that MotoGP has guaranteed VR46 two entries for when they are ready to step up to the main class, either now or in the future.

From what I understand Rossi has said VR46 would likely enter MotoGP in 2021, which coincides with the end of his Yamaha contract.

Our commentary crew said it has all to do with the entry list being closed until the end of 2020. So a team would have to withdraw to open up a spot and new entries will be allowed in 2021. Apparently Yamaha wanted to put Bagnaia in for Folger this year and Ponchoral said 'no' which only made the KTM switch official. However Bagnaia has signed directly with Ducati and not with Pramac so Petrucci could yet get screwed if they keep Lorenzo in the works team. Technically Petrucci could sign for Suzuki but that would be a step back barring a miracle.

Unless Lorenzo has a stellar year with Ducati I'm doubtful he'll stay. Ducati have already said that he should expect a pay cut if he wants a new contract for 2019. With the KTM and Tech 3 relationship for 2019, I can see KTM making a big money bid for Lorenzo with Smith either being dropped by the manufacturer or being moved (back) to Tech 3.

So that would mean an open Ducati seat for Bagnaia or Petrucci, or more likely Pedrosa...

Bagnaia has signed a two year deal to race with Pramac. I seriously doubt Ducati considers him for the works team without seeing what he's got with the satellite crew. I can't see Pramac letting go of Miller since they've just signed him so that makes Petrucci's future so uncertain. And I bet he feels like he should get into a works team somewhere. Not just a works bike on a satellite team.

Ahh couple of interesting things there then. Didn't know about the third bike thing or about Tech 3. Supposedly Yamaha give him the third factory bike, which team would it be with? Seems like Tech 3 would have been the most competent option, but if that is off the table then who?

This is the second season that Petrucci has the current version of Ducati. He beat out Redding for that right when he finished higher in points in 2016 (despite missing three races). Honda has Crutchlow but Yamaha didn't issue the current bike to Tech3 or anyone else. I don't see Zarco going with Tech3 to KTM, I really don't. He's the most obvious pick to get the current Yamaha in 2019 but under which banner? I guess Yamaha doesn't know that either since Tech3 revealed the KTM switch only like two weeks ago.

Petrucci was told by Pramac before the season started that his contract will not be renewed following the 2018 season.

The track seems to have a few undulations that present a decent challenge for the riders, especially in the wet. Is rain predicted for the race? Should be as entertaining as qualy then.

Start delay due to "safety conditions". What? The track is barely wet.

the only safety issues is regarding the teams interests, they're all negotiating

Everybody but Jack Miller went to the pits to swap their bikes. Would love to see only Miller in the grid.
