RIP Marco! I loved his style and I was looking forward to seeing him with one of the factory teams. He was championship material.

"Just" Fall off? I mean he was hit by two massive bikes that carried some noticeable speed. I doubt that any helmet would have saved him there.

but my point is that it is something disturbing, we didn't realize a helmet could come off

I thought Rossi didn't hit him. That angle is so disturbing.

Wow this mus be shocking to him. Considering his bad season and Simoncelli being a good friend.

This is not true in the slightest. It certainly isn't the first time a rider has lost his helmet in a crash. It also has nothing to do with the outcome of the accident.

Rossi did all he could to avoid first a collision with Edwards but then with Simoncelli. It was just too little too late, but you can really see he tried everything he could, even before Edwards who really didn't see it coming. Poor Marco, I hope he didn't suffer. :(

I watched this live and thought he was dead when i saw him motionless without helmet. Said he was conscious, so went out to see relatives. Came back to find out the worst. RIP

Man, what the hell. That was not the kind of news I expected to wake up too, I thought motorsport had had its amount of bad luck already this year. Rest in peace Marco...

BBC's Matt Roberts:
"Marco lost his helmet in the crash. The officials said that, when the track medics got to him, he was in cardiac arrest. They tried to resuscitate him in the ambulance and the medical centre.

"Both riders collided with him and the impact corresponded to him losing his helmet. The saddest thing is that Valentino [Rossi] and Marco were very close friends.

"Colin [Edwards] has a dislocated shoulder and is in a lot of pain. He and Valentino are absolutely devastated."

:(

I think Rossi knew straightaway. You can tell by his body language as he rode back to the pits. I think Colin knew as well, seeing the way he was by the track.

Must be absolutely awful for Colin and Valentino. I hope they take good care of them because they will probably have a massive guilt-feeling the coming weeks, months, years...

I'm going to be terrified for next weeks Indian GP, considering recent events. Please God, no more.

The BBC has just ended it's broadcast of the MotoGP programme as it was rather brief due to the sad circumstances.

The story repeats itself all over again. This is a terribly sad day for motorsport. I am not into two wheels racing, but it's hard to ignore the name Simoncelli. 24 year old, this is just awful...and what a crash, hard to believe. Rest in Peace Marco. Just like Dan last sunday, my condoleances go to his family, friends and fans...devastating :'(

Not much logic in that though.

I understand your worries, but the odds of another fatality are the same as always. Very, very little.
