The Thunderdome looks in surprisingly good shape, are any series still running on it? I drive by it every few weeks and from the outside it looks abandoned. |

Lemons did a 24 hour race on the WTCC layout prior to COVID too the dragstrip been MIA since COVID - the repave job they did back in 2020 messed it up bad apparently; ANDRA has a sportsman series race on it next year tho the spectator areas & infield buildings at the Dome are completely abandoned - in the same form that North Wilkesboro was before Jr cleaned up for iRacing |

figured it would be better to reply over here @ IM Blotto IM Blotto wrote: (link to video) found this on youtube today had no idea the Nascar Modified series raced at pocono let alone an oval layout Pocono had a 5/8th mile track from the track's opening (which preceded the full 2.5 mile layout up to 1991 - which then was removed to construct the current Cup Series garage area. Modifieds raced there throughout it's history. It's biggest race was the Race of Champions - which the track took over from Trenton in 1977. The first 3 years was run on the full 2.5 mile layout; before moving down to the 3/4 mile in 1980. NERFers Corner article (Speedway Scene) on the 1979 race Weces Pieces has programs posted from several races held on the 3/4 mile track in the early 1970s as well. https://www.wecespieces.com/program-archive-2 (photo credits: Jim Hanley, Peter Montano; Gater Racing News, NERFers Corner and the Superspeedway Modified group on Facebook) |

Found a video on YouTube of all the B roll and crash footage from "Days of Thunder". The stuff that gets a second or two in the movie is shown in a bit more detail here. I honestly figured they filmed most of the crash scenes at the track and not at an airport runway. |

while the current configuration of Rockingham will always be one of my favorites, the original flat version would of been perfect for modern IndyCars |

Man, even though SS racing is a gimmick, it at least retains some legitimacy when the track has no grip and the cars are aerodynamically slippery. |

Having the cars bouncing around like they're on the ragged edge of disaster every lap makes such a huge difference in viewing these races. Modern SS race feels too much like Tesla autopilot on a slot-car track. |
