I recall Texas having some silly "Dual Banking" concept when the track opened. On top of the 24-degree banking, there was also a 6-degree bank for CART races.

That got scrapped pretty quickly.

Yeah I remember that. Then I think the plan was for them to use the apron. Think that's why the transitions off the corners were so flat.

Well, the CEOs son did die in the wreck as well. Maybe they just had no taste for it.

I get it but still, I mean immediately off the car. But then they go and sponsor Loy Allen the next year.

The contract was with Alan, and Alan was gone. The team was sold. I don't see any issue with it.

How about a survival of the fittest Bill Elliott didn't win?

September 30, 1956

Curtis Turner is declared the winner of the scheduled 100-mile NASCAR Convertible race at Asheville-Weaverville Speedway when a 14-car crash wipes out all but one car running in the event. Turner's Ford is the only car still in running condition when officials terminate the event after 181 of the scheduled 200 laps.

Hooters actually wanted Loy Allen to drive the 7 car because they sponsored him in ARCA. The team disagreed and wanted Jimmy Hensley to race because that is what Kulwicki wanted if he was not able to drive. The team also argued that Loy Allen wasn't ready to race cup. Hooters left the team and Jimmy Hensley drove the car at North Wilkesboro

Watching these old races at Charlotte, Atlanta and Texas proves that we're not looking back with rose tinted glasses. It's very obvious that the cars can race nose to tail in the corners and there isn't such a huge advantage in having clean air. I miss it.

They had sponsored Loy in ARCA before Alan died. They sponsored Loy when he won at Atlanta in '92.

Did people in 1994 think Loy Allen Jr. was gonna be the next big thing after his Daytona 500 pole?

Bristol this weekend so why not another full race? it's 1992 and Bill Elliott was on a 3 in a row winning streak going into the Food City 500. Also the last asphalt race at Bristol before the switch to concrete.

Never noticed the #00 Western Auto car in the movie before

found this video footage of a fantastic finish to the 1993 NASCAR Winston Modified Tour race at Richmond. Thought I would post it here after someone shared it in a WMT fans group on Facebook. Also this has to be the first ever video footage I have ever seen of a Mod race at Richmond. I saw some photos of when they ran in the late 90's but nothing else.

(sorry for it not being Winston Cup/Busch but it should fit IMO)
