This sportscaster makes Marty Reid look like Ken Squier.

NASCAR posted the 1991 Bristol Spring race onto their YouTube

I believe this is the first time they have done this.

-

edit: they also posted the 1992 Bristol Spring race

Tast racing. How much power did those cars had? Besides, the car shape really helps to make a draft, but doensn't help the car to turn, so it's not such an advantage to have clean air on the turn. Also Ken Squier makes the race feel and look so much more important, and Ned Jarret really knows what knowledge to share and a great change of voice tune. Also those 80's cars look so much like the street ones.

100% pure Nascar.

Uploaded by Smiff TV today: The original broadcast of the 1984 Talladega 500, a race that some called "the greatest NASCAR race ever held" when it was run. Badass racing.

This isn't that classic, it's more like recent history, but anyway. I had forgotten how many Dodges there used to be in the series, and they really did have a good day at the 2008 Daytona 500.

SmiffTV's latest upload is the satellite feed of the 1986 Talladega 500, one of the hottest races - in terms of both temperature and competition - in NASCAR history.

Looking back on that era, scheduling a 500-mile superspeedway race in the dead of July in the South was pretty fucking ballsy.

I don't like plate racing, but even I am riveted by the late 1990's aero package - the entire field is together except one car. The cars barely went above 200 or 8000 RPM and seemed much more stable. Bring this back :flag: :flag:

Talladega '99 is one of my favorite races. So many great things.
-Jeff Burton's inexplicably smoking car with no real issues
-Tony Stewart and Mike Skinner being idiots and hitting the grass causing a huge wreck
-Drunk fan shouting "HEY RUSTY!" as Rusty Wallace's wrecked car is shown on the video feed around the track
-Wild-ass racing almost throughout
-Larry McReynolds giving the business to a tow truck driver (and to his own driver Mike Skinner) after the Big One
-A 10/10 winner imo
-And this race came a day after an equally insane Busch race (the 1999 Touchstone Energy 300, I highly recommend)

Speaking of...

And another note about that Busch race, all but five cars in the race were Chevrolets (there were only four Pontiacs and one [yes, ONE] Ford in the field and it was a '97 Thunderbird).

That big one in the Busch race was insane, yet hilarious in an "ARCA brakes" kind of way.

I think I remember watching that Busch Series race. Felt like it's the first time I've watched a plate race live flag-to-flag and remembered that it was pretty exciting as it is entertaining.

What's the story behind this? It looks like some sort of large speedway in the 80s or 90s. I looked up Phil (or Phillip) Ross on Racing-Reference and Ultimate Racing History and got nothing, which leads me to believe that it can't have been in any of the major NASCAR series or the main ARCA series.

It's from the NASCAR Sportsman series in 1991. Here's an article: http://www.racing-reference.info/showblog?id=2769

Ah yes, that infamous series that killed many drivers and had violent wrecks
