This is crazy. Seems like some news outlets would be all over this by now.

It's just a spectator with no confirmation but...

I'll find it extremely difficult to believe anything coming from spectators or drivers who didn't see it as anything other than hearsay right now.

The talks of calling off a helicopter police tape are not encouraging

I'd be inclined to agree, normally. But, with the night being cancelled, cops being called in, and fans being ordered to leave...this is highly unusual.

I don't think this guy is a doctor. How can he say if somebody is "dead" when he's sitting in the stands?

The fact that the fans were removed from the track and the night was called off may say more towards fact and intentional than anything else.

Goddammit.

Because this is a major story, I will be splitting this into its own thread.

I must say the NASCAR drivers on Twitter have been eerily silent since this story came out.

I would assume most of them were/are sleeping.

I agree with the fact most are sleeping. But the media has been silent in the last 30 mins. Either way, bad PR for Tony and even more important, thoughts and prayers for Kevin Ward. It's an honor to do something you love. This should never happen

Hopefully all the necessary measures that they took, we're due to the fact that he could have been killed, not that he had been. All I'm praying right now. For the guy, and for Stewart also.

I'm waiting until more facts are presented. In any case, this doesn't look good.

http://www.sportingnews.com/nascar/stor ... kevin-ward

Quote:
Rich Willis, who was at the track, said he didn’t see exactly what happened but his sister down in Turn 1 did. He saw Stewart and Kevin Ward get into the wreck.

“People (who could see it better) said the guy got out of his car and was gesturing angrily at Tony Stewart when Tony Stewart came by during the next lap under yellow,” Willis said in a phone interview. “He approached him and evidently when he was driving by the guy standing on the track gesturing at him, he gunned his engine.

“What happened was the back end kicked out and clipped the guy and the guy flew across the track.”

This is what I was thinking happened also...

Bob Pockrass ‏@bobpockrass 20m

Talked to fan who was at race who said Stewart car hit driver who was gesturing at him. Said Stewart gunned it, back end kicked out into man

He gassed it to get by and not hit with a helmet or something and the thing fishtailed into the kid. Just an accident and a bad one at that.
