What has Wind Tunnel said about Tony's undeserved win?

I have to voice my opinion on this one.I havent read back many pages, so I dont know what everyone else is saying.

I had a buddy of mine over at my Dad's place. We had a few beers, some nachos, then a post race chili. Great race day, from start to finish. I will admit the amount of accidents was a big reason the day was so great. We have yet to see a "shltshow" in the CoT's at a restrictor plate track, and the amount of attrition gave it a great finish to boot.
The finish itself is mainly what gets me though. I don't want to sound like a preacher but, lets go to the very basic's of racing. What is racing? Racing is a event in which a certain number of contestants compete with the goal of finishing a pre-decided number of laps around a circuit, or track. The winner is determined by who crosses the finish line first. Today we saw a driver, Regan Smith, cross the finish line before the rest of the field, therefor winning the race to the finish. There are rules in place that have to be considered though, passing below the yellow line is illegal during the race, but apparently the drivers were told to go for it. Sure, the is a rule in place, BUT, even if that rule is in place, it goes against who can cross the finish line first.

I hope people put an asterisk next to Tony Stewart's win, saying that he actually crossed the line second.

Jeff Gordon said Regan should have just let Tony block him, because if Tony spun himself on Regan's nose NASCAR would probably have given Regan the win. NASCAR Now pointed out Regan moved high before he tried to make the pass below Tony, and that if he had just gone high he could've won without controversy. personally, i think it doesn't take a very experienced driver to figure out Tony wasn't going to leave the bottom lane open, and that he'd probably force you below the yellow line.

Damn, but Smith still won in my book. If they say the yellow line is legal at the finish, they should stick to that rule or at least made it clear that it's not allowed.

*Sigh* Until Speedweeks, I'm done with the discussions. I missed an epic race, nearly missed another epic race, and sat through two hours of an epic race with a crap ending. That's fall Talladega for ya.

 Wow, I just watched the finish. I would say Smith won it, he was kind of forced down the line. With the run they had on Stewart any further blocking would have been useless anyway (or would have resulted in a crash).

Now it seems the rule isn't clear about whether they can go there on the last lap, is it?

Quote:
from NASCAR: Post-Race Comments from NASCAR Vice President of Corporate Communications Jim Hunter Talladega Superspeedway, Oct. 5, "You cannot improve your position anytime you go below the yellow line. In our judgment, he (Regan Smith) improved his position and the penalty for that is a pass thru, so he was moved back to the tail end of the longest line or 18th position. At the driver's meeting, we clearly state that you cannot improve your position by going below the yellow line. We do not feel he was forced below the yellow line. Anytime you get into a situation like this, there are going to be two different opinions. We respect Regan's view, but we made the call, we think it's the right call and the finish is final. NASCAR has to maintain some kind of control – and that's the reason we say, you cannot advance your position by going below the yellow line. If he had not improved his position, he probably would have been awarded 2nd place."(NASCAR)(10-5-2008)

Seems pretty clear to me.

He still didn't address the "if you can see the checkered flag, anything goes" rule they said during the driver's meeting.

Very true.

Either way I'm happy. Smith or Stewart. Both are fine with me.

Really enjoyed the race.

Well this goes against what Smith said was said in the drivers' meeting, so someone's lying

Only apply to raids, faggot.

Besides, the board has been mentioned several times before, and pretty much everyone from here knows it.

Up yours, bitch.

Very dubious finishing but hey if Nascar rules it's not fair then it's not I guess

Would have been interesting to see Smoke's disappointment reaction again if Smithers would have kept his win :D

I can imagine some foul language

If Smith hadn't gone below the yellow line then he would have spun Stewart out. That says to me that he was quite clearly forced down there. Lame decision.

I was also pretty pissed with i saw Kvapil go sailing into the wall. I thought he had that cleared :(
