The Coca-Cola 600. A grueling 600-mile, 400-lap test of endurance at one of NASCAR's toughest tracks. Though not as old as its counterparts up north in Indianapolis or across the pond in Monaco, it has long been one of the great racing traditions that make Memorial Day Weekend one of the most anticipated weekends for motorsports all year.

Will Jimmie Johnson continue his winning ways? Will Kasey Kahne repeat his '600 victory from last year? Will Danica Patrick get booed out of Charlotte? Who will eat the bones?

Sprint Cup Entry List (44 cars)
Nationwide Entry List (45 cars)

Glad to see Michael Annett back in the #43 car for the Nationwide Car and that Reed Sorenson is going to have a sponsored #40 car to go back to. I also noticed that Curtis Key isn't bringing a couple of his park-mobiles with him this weekend.

I'll probably fall asleep 5 minutes into the 600, like I do most years.

This race is really 2 races in 1, the first 240 laps till the sun goes down, then the last 160 where the race really happens.

The only way this race is fun is if you have a party size stock of alcohol at your disposal.

Or if there's a caution every three minutes like the 2005 race. Of course that was by no means a good race (despite the great finish), just an interesting one.

It was a shame to see Bobby Labonte lose that one. The surface caused carnage in the Fall 500 mile race as well.

I thought 2011 was very good, last year was bad all around. That race could have gone caution free had NASCAR decided to.

Thought 2010 was a good one too. Penske vs Ganassi Memorial Day slugfest.

Attending my first NASCAR race this weekend, should be a lot of fun, even if the race does suck. Number 1 aim for the weekend is to gatecrash a tailgating party...

Alex Bowman picked up a new sponsor for Charlotte, I think you've probably heard of them.

Quote:
Microsoft sponsoring Bowman at Charlotte: RAB Racing with Brack Maggard and driver Alex Bowman announced that they are teaming with Microsoft Corp. for the NASCAR Nationwide Series History 300 on May 25 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Since its premiere at Daytona International Speedway in February, Toyota teams - including RAB Racing - have been utilizing its line-of-business Windows 8 Trackside app to enhance their performance on and off the racetrack. Developed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD) and running on the Surface Pro, RAB Racing is able to monitor real-time performance data, conveniently and portably. Because of its ability to share data with the crew instantaneously, the application has quickly become a staple of the team's strategy.

I'm surprised that a company the size of Microsoft hasn't been more involved in Nascar.

Downtown Super 8. Could be fun getting there Sunday if the only way to get there is a cab...

Not exactly sure where that is. My brother lives just off 49 in University Area. There's some good places around the track to visit. I love Quaker Steak and Lube heading towards Concord Mills Mall. And if you like good beer, head back down 29 from the track to The Flying Saucer. About 5 mins away on the right past Cook Out. Amazing beer selection. I'm a member of their UFO club.

The Coca-Cola 600 is probably the last race in the world that I would buy a ticket to.

Or have it cancelled altogether so that it can be called the Coke 0.

Let me know how ghetto your Super 8 room is. The one I stayed at near Toledo had soap from a Holiday Inn Express. It's not the first crappy Super 8 I've been to. Springfield,IL last year was pretty bad.

Friday, Carowinds should be open, go ride the Intimidator Mitch.

I have rode it and last Friday rode the Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion. Both highly recommended. :)
