That would be the best way to do it imo. If they are truly worried about driver safety, don't give them any incentive to stay foot to the floor once the yellow flies.

Which is where we reach the truth: NASCAR believes having every inch of the track count for position and be a potential finish line is a selling point, and it's in complete contradiction with their focus on safety. They wouldn't go back to the last completed lap because they're afraid of the fan backlash if it ends up denying Jr a victory, and because they like bragging about the scoring loop shit.

But didn't Jr. get screwed out of a win there in 2005? because of the scooring loop shit in 3 & 4 and they gave Gordon the win?

Wasn't that when the guy restarting second always got a jump on the leader and by putting Jr second they were actually helping him.

There was 4 to go when the yellow flew and no GWC rules in place. It would end under yellow either way.

Lead lap cars would have pitted with 3 to go, lapped cars with 2, and then the formation lap after would have been the white flag lap.

The yellow came out for a Brian Vickers spin mid-pack. He never hit anything/anyone and drove away. I remember feel so helpless knowing that the next 3 or 4 laps would run under caution and nothing could be done about it.

Didn't they still do the "quickie" yellow? Lap cars and lap down cars pit at the same time, they could have had a one lap shootout. (Before the track was beer bombed anyways)

Yeaa, I'm sure they were about to go for a one lap shootout.

There was also a impended Red Flag rule, that after 5 or something to go is suspended. They had just passed that.

Anyway, awesome weekend. Dispite the NNS ending after the finish result, this was a 11 out of 10 weekend. I may have enjoyed even more as I saw first the Cup race, in a semi-delayed tape, at Brazillian Fox that had very phew commercial brakes, but the qual is crappy, still 4;3 for me. Then the rain come, but they just switched to live action, wich was about to go back green, awesome. Watched the last 50 laps with my girlfriend by my side, perfect. Having watched the cup race I had no more blue balls. So Monday night the Arca race was the best I ever saw from Arca at Dega. Specially because it was a download in very HQ, great change from the Cup race. And I actually was very entretained by the cautions and was happy to see Kimmel win again. NNS was also great. And the cup with those clouds in the back, made an epic background. The Gen6 finally showed for what he came for, and what I was hoping, the classic Dega, like the 2000-03 pack. But better. And all those clouds. Epic Motherfucking weekend. Best Dega weekend ever for me.
