Post subject:  Martinsville | Who will Buckshot Patrick hit next?

After a dramatic showdown at Fontana, we go from west to east coast for the running of the spring leg of NASCAR's bi-annual stop at Martinsville. Built in 1947 at a length of 0.526 miles and banked 12° in the turns, the little paperclip shaped oval is the shortest, flattest and oldest track on the schedule and puts on the kind of old school, hard nosed short track racing that the sport was built on.

How will the Generation-6 cars race at Martinsville? With the bumpers not matching up like they did in the previous car, will we see even more spins and thrills than usual?

two things are for certain, Harvick will win the Truck race and Logano will get wrecked by someone

Looking forward to seeing how Chase Elliot does, I think he could give Harv a run for his money with that Hendrick truck.

I think we should see Martinsville racing like it was before the COT. The front ends seem to be a bit more fragile and with the bumpers not matching up, you can't go hard into the turn and slam into the guy without spinning him. That's my theory anyways.

Here's hoping Tony punts Logano into the wall.... not like Denny will be able to for the next month or so.

My personal opinions on the participants aside, how is wrecking someone two weeks after a late race block fair retaliation?

Not sure what to make of Harvick's chances in the Truck race at Martinsville. He's driving for Joe Denette's team, which hasn't won a race in the Truck Series. I'm not saying that Harvick can't win the truck race but the team isn't a proven winner at this point. I don't know how much experience Chase Elliott has at Martinsville but I think he can run well. Timothy Peters is somebody who always seems to run well at Martinsville. He's the guy I see being a real contender this weekend.

I don't see Harvick contending for the win without RCR, but he may manage a top 5 finish regardless. Hopefully he won't dominate.

I know he's among the guys who overreact, but I just meant in general. I find it annoying (and sometimes a little sad) that some of these guys look to retaliate with more severe intent than the original offense.

Though in fairness to Stewart, he obviously hasn't done much of anything just yet on this "incident" so I'm just speaking extemporaneously.

The Truck race should be great. Its shaping up to be a very competitive year, even more so than last season. Turner Motorsports is the best team, but Red Horse, RCR, BKR, ThorSport and KBM are nothing to laugh about. I think it'll be about who can be the most consistent. Thorsport and Keselowski's teams in particular seem to struggle with consistency. Still, I'd say there are 16 drivers with a good chance to win this season.

Didn't know Harvick wasn't running RCR, gives hope for the others then

Well, if you're going to retaliate at all, best do it this week and not at a place like California or Texas.
(Watch someone retaliate on Sunday and wind up hurting someone, proving me wrong in the process - slower does not mean softer)

Yeah, there have been some almighty crashes at Martinsville over the years... Dennis Setzer in Brian Keselowski's Cup car comes to mind.

Come to think of it, since Fontana was so exciting, I'm willing to bet Mattinsville will have little bumping up front and have an anti-climatic finish.

Not the most exciting place for lap speeds, but it does look like they'll be all over the track record again today in qualifying...which won't be televised live because of the Barret-Jackson crap.

Don't get me wrong, showing practice and qualifying live can be really boring sometimes, but bumping it for a live auto auction is just silly. They could literally televise an auto auction from 5 years ago, call it live, and no one would know. What is the difference between watching an live auction or a tape delayed auction on tv? I don't get it.
