Even though everyone is finding it tricky to bump draft, Ford seems to be at more of a disadvantage because they have rounded off rear bumpers which makes it dodgier to push them while Chevrolets and Toyotas can work better with each other. Guess it's poetic justice for Roush not wanting his precious Fords to work with other manufacturers in the past..

A bright and sunny morning in Daytona. Testing stopped to allow the jet dryers to dry turn 2.

Jeff Burton just said that the difficulty with bump drafting now has more to do with the curvature of the front bumpers on all the makes and not really anything to do with the rear bumpers. You have to hit the car ahead's bumper dead center now. Seems to me like it will take an extremely brave driver to do it in the corners anymore.

The Furniture Row guys stuck some GoPros all over the place on their car during the test yesterday. On the sidekirt, under the car looking at the rear end/suspension, and looking at the RF wheel/suspension.

So will the Charlotte tests this coming weekend be televised/streamed as well?

That sideskirt and fender well angle would be awesome to use for actual races.

Sideskirt would get knocked off too easy.

By the way, Biffle had a lap at nearly 195 mph in the afternoon session yesterday. Qualifying will still be dull as fuck but at least the single-car speeds are getting a little more interesting.

I wonder with the new giant rooflaps they'll be slightly less paranoid about higher speeds (within reason) as there's a hell of a lot less chance that a car is going to get airbourne now.

I'm not sure how much of a difference those bigger roof flaps will make. Once they go up they'll do a better job of catching air, but the bigger surface might also keep them down more when the car spins sideways. They must have some bloody strong struts to stop those things tearing off when they're up though.

The cars are something like 125 pounds lighter so I guess they finally decided they needed to compensate. I don't think they really changed the roof flaps any when they went to the COT platform.

ah don't worry it'll only take someone hitting that lip at the inner loop right to send them into orbit, roof canopy deployed or not, you can't really call them flaps anymore, that's insulting to women, those things are more like a huge square umbrella flapping up than.... oh I said the f-word, sorry....

The ones in the hoods make me laugh, you could loose a dog inside one of them.

Benning looks to run full 2013 season again in Truck Series: #57-Norm Benning finds himself in the unenviable position of scrambling for sponsors as he prepares for next's month Camping World Truck Series opener at Daytona International Speedway. Benning remains confident he'll secure the financial support required to enter his #57 Chevrolet in all 22 truck events this season. "The economy is hurting everybody," said Benning, who was 21st in the truck standings in 2012. "I'm not looking for the kind of money those (Sprint Cup) guys are to run my operation, but you can't do it without some kind of consistent budget." Benning's race truck requires about $3 million to $4 million in sponsorship funding to legitimately compete for the Camping World Truck points title. "The more money I have, the faster I go," said Benning, who had a two-year deal with SoBe before the company was sold to PepsiCo. "We leased top-notched engines, so every little bit helps. I'll be disappointed if I don't do a top 10, if not a top five, at Daytona," said Benning, a commercial jet pilot. He doesn't have to qualify. "Regardless if I don't get a dime, I'm going down to win that race. I'll spend the money myself. It'll be a huge loser for me financially, but I don't care.(in part from the Pittsburgh Tribune)(1-21-2013)

Sprint Announced some changes to the Sprint Unlimited. The fans can now vote on the starting lineup. They can vote to line the cars up based on: practice speeds, car number, or 2012 Owners Points.
