Not sure where to put this, so I made a topic if it needed to be moved to the OWR side.

Shane apparently had a bad crash in USAC quals and was unresponcive while being airlifted to a hospital. All of his past troubles aside, he really turned his life around. This is a serious situation...

Credits to the RuRa crew for being the first place to find this, and they have been posting Twitter updates.

A little more info...

"UPDATE: Word from the family was that Shane was initially unresponsive when airlifted from Terre Haute. No word on his current condition."

"Hmiel was between turns three and four of the half-mile dirt oval when he lost control. His USAC Silver Crown car cartwheeled and impacted the retaining wall, resulting in a catastrophic collapse of the car's roll cage."

...Think good thoughts.

No just talk. Same as those saying the cage was badly crushed.

I've seen someone say he is awake.

The guy who originally reported it just said this:

UPDATE: Family report says that Shane Hmiel is in an induced coma and is undergoing tests at Methodist.

Yeah, uh, no.

Shane's at Methodist Hospital. I'll defer to a tweet from the Pop-Off Valve blog:

Quote:
I will say this: If there are such things as miracle workers in motorsports medicine, they live at Methodist Hospital.

then I'm very happy he seems to be ok, although how he's awake and talking when the official word from USAC and family is he's in a drug induced coma is a bit confusing, just saying (neither of our sources are reliable, so let's just wait for something official now).

Stop posting information from every bullshit source you find. So far Shane Hmiel has been confirmed dead, awake and talking, in an induced coma, and in critical & stable condition.

Jesus Christ people, use some common sense.

this is terrible. you might want to update the thread title though. first thing i thought of was an OD. not trying to be rude, best wishes to him, but that is honestly what i thought.
