Six down, four to go in the Chase. With a crazy race at Kansas behind us, the tour heads to an equally-crazy paperclip nestled in the foothills of Virginia.

Grab your hotdogs and grandfather clocks, because it's time for Martinsville...

I have never understood why so many people hate Martinsville.

Same. Usually one of the better races. Short tracks have become too rare on the schedule.

I've rarely heard anyone hate on Martinsville save for obvious trolls. It's the essence of stock car racing.

I've never been a big fan of Martinsville, but it's probably mostly because I'm a Kenseth fan and he's usually pretty terrible there.

I never used to like Martinsville. 500 laps around this place just seemed to drag on TV.

Notice how that was written in the past tense... Today, I quite like Martinsville because the rest of the schedule is generally such a flaming pile of shit.

Need more old short tracks on the schedule.... Flat tiny tracks...

Allmendinger remains at Phoenix, Smith presumably on the sidelines.

Martinsville is my favourite track on the schedule

I don't particularly care for it either. I'm not writing it off as a shitty track or anything; just not my cup of tea.

I love Martinsville. It's different, it's entertaining, and it's pretty fun to watch. The sport needs more short tracks.

I like the short tracks but I really don't like the layout at Martinsville. I don't necessarily need big, sweeping corners but I really don't care for the heavy braking/hairpin layout.

Speaking of short tracks, I would love to see a Nationwide or Truck race at USA International in Florida.

That'd be cool if it weren't a grass field now. :(

Fuck, I had no idea. How can a track that good just plain die?

Right around '08 they had trouble picking up sponsorship for the track. The owners decided it'd be best to cut their losses and sell the track. It was planned to be demolished immediately and warehouses taking it's place but for whatever reason that plan also fell through and the track was left to deteriorate after everything was auctioned off.

I like Martinsville because it's the last true link to the bullrings of the past left on the Sprint Cup schedule. Unfortunately I won't be able to see the cup race because of work.
