This is so badass. Was never really a Gordon fan but I'm a huge fan of facial hair and so Jeff Gordon has gone up a few levels in my book. Like when he grew the goatee years ago.

This post wins the thread, IMO.

The goatee, buzzed hair look he had briefly in the early 2000's was the first time I viewed Gordon as a slight badass after years of looking like a polished pussy. Anyone have a pic of that?

I remember the Jayski quote for that weekend being "BIG NEWS! (for some reason) - Gordon grows goatee".

It was for the 2003 All Star Race, if I remember correctly... if not, it was at Charlotte, anyway.

So we see how it sort of will look like.

Bah. I wonder when Nationwide races will start during the strict 2 hour time slot whereby Motors TV actually do show it live, rather than on a Saturday morning / Friday evening where Motors TV prioritise showing something much more important, like the Ecuador Indoor Motor-pogo-sticking Championship.

Motors TV will ONLY show Saturday evening races live because the French commentators don't want to work late Fridays/after midnight Saturdays.

And since they view the French half of the channel as their priority and everything else as an offshoot, that's just how it has to be...

I do have a dim memory of them showing a Busch race at Daytona live in 2004/5 or so though.
The one where Kyle blocked Jr like a dick right up to the wall and then spun Mikey into the inside wall...
Remember being all mad and hyped up at like 2am and not sleeping that night

Oh that brings back memories, yeah they only did that for us Motors UK viewers after we spun up stink on their forums, the race iirc wasn't broadcasted on the Motors versions outside the UK live.

In the end it was one of the most boring Busch races at Daytona, save that last lap.

Yep, I mean I guess someone has to be there any time they go live to insert the ad-breaks etc but I'd still rather them set the thing on auto, go home and allow the UK half to watch a race live with ad breaks coming in randomly than have to wait 24 hours+

I'm sure the French viewers would rather watch a race live in English than have to wait too...I know I'd feel the same if the race was in French...

Yeah I remember that was the answer they gave then a load of French people came into the thread and said they'd rather watch the race live with American commentary than wait and listen to the French guys, don't think that went down too well with Fred either

IIRC Motors stuff was rolled out by another company at the time, Red something TV I think, the whole system was automated, weeks in advance, but as you say they did indeed have to employ someone to do the live stuff and it all get's very expensive, especially at night, plus at the time they used to get income from home shopping channels so it just wasn't/isn't financially viable to put the races on live at night.

I guess that all makes sense.

But still.
