They have extended the kerbs in Turn 1 and also moved the walls so they are just about parallel to the track now.

It can be seen in this video, about 3:20

They've only made token changes, the wall David Ragan hit has been moved back a few meters so it doesn't come down to the track edge, thus reducing the angle of attack, and the wall David Reutimann hit has had it's angle shaved too, but the walls are still there. If the same thing happened again, Ragan wouldn't be bounced back into the track at such an acute angle, but he'd still be heading in that direction. The other change is the outside runoff is tarmac all the way to the bottom of the Esses.

The biggest change at the track is more hunking great Grandstands.

Yeah they still have that access road on the inside entering the esses so the danger is still there.

That said, tracks of that size need safety access roads for quick response so the danger will always be there. After years of racing that was a freak wreck. It happens.

The camera sometimes makes the barriers look worse than they are. Where Kubica hit at Montreal wasn't a 45 degree opening like it might have looked like on TV. It wasn't much of an opening at all to be honest. I'm not so sure about the Glen though. Access roads are always going to be needed for safety vehicles and recovering cars.

Good to hear. The #30 car runs the entire race sometimes regardless of sponsorship. It seems like they do run the entire race when they save up enough money from parking the other races.

It's raining at the Glen right now but they've apparently given the Nationwide guys the OK to go out and practice if they want with rain tires.

Yeah, the forecast looks poor. Won't see the Cup guys at any point today. Tomorrow and Sunday look much more promising though. I'm guessing Cup qualifying will be scrapped altogether in favor of practice tomorrow and Nationwide qualifying will run as scheduled.

Of course, if the Nationwide session runs today they could use those times to set the field and then use tomorrow for Cup practice AND qualifying, but I doubt they would try that.

Yeah, they're on track.

Chris Neville was interviewing Ron Fellows a few minutes ago and mentioned that he is now a co-owner of Mosport. He also said with them doing a lot of construction and development on the track, it's being considered for the Nationwide schedule in the next couple years.

30 blew a motor, the 11 and 31 got in the oil and crashed hard, both to backup cars.

Kurt Busch proving the Sears Point run was no fluke. Fastest today by quite a big margin.

Excellent. Now if they put some work and hire people with brains to run the oval, I'll be a happy man.

Just realized this race isn't being broadcast live in Canada due to Olympic closing ceremonies. Shit.

Hopefully it gets washed out to Monday :p

Whaaat? :( So much for TSN being the "home of NASCAR in Canada".

I'm sure someone will post a stream, anyway. ;)
