I think the ARCA race will actually be on the Thunderbolt Road Course at NJMP - 150 miles/67 laps certainly wouldn't fit the bill for a 3/4 mile tri-oval...

FYI, this weekend is the largest Late Model race in the country, the Bailey's 300 at Martinsville Speedway. I'm not sure if it's technically a NASCAR race or not since the NASCAR Whelen All American series racing for the season is over but the track is NASCAR sanctioned and most of the competitors raced for the 2008 NASCAR Whelen All American championship. Last week Martinsville Speedway held an open test for Late Models and 116 cars showed up, so I would imagine qualifying for the top 22 spots is going to be close.

The format for this race is that qualifying takes place on Saturday which locks in the top 22 qualifiers, then on Sunday they have four 25 lap heat races in which the top 5 from each race transfer to the 200 lap feature for a starting field of 42 cars.

There is no TV coverage of this event, for some reason, but I'll be there with my camera when it takes place on Sunday.

Alex Ciompi will race for the second time in Camping World East. This will be his first oval race (excluding the test this summer at Lowe's), after he debuted at Lime Rock.

The Camping World East and Whelen modified races have been cancelled this weekend due to the chance of heavy rain.

BTW, here is what was left of Tim Andrews car after last week.

Damn, that really reminded me of when Johnny Benson had the back end of his car sheared away by Ricky Craven during the '96 Coca-Cola 600.

Montoya's time was disallowed.

Quote:
For a few minutes, Juan Pablo Montoya was on top of the NASCAR world. Then it all came to a crashing halt.

After winning the pole for Sunday's Camping World 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, Montoya's time was disallowed by NASCAR for exceeded maximum gas pressure for the rear shocks.

As a result of the penalty, championship contender Jimmie Johnson will start from the pole and Montoya will go all the way down to 43rd place in the starting lineup.

No. Cool to see Bobby Hillin Jr. back, I didn't think that deal would pan out.
