All 3 series are racing together for the first time in a while at the fast, hard to pass 1 mile high banked oval.

First of a string of 3 not so exciting tracks, 2 of which are repaved.

And at long last, it seems Speed is actually showing the Friday truck race LIVE!

What time is the Truck race? I actually have a weekday off but I'm running a 5k at 7pm.

How dare you say Dover isn't an exciting track!

It's NASCAR that's not an exciting series atm, Dover rocks! ;)

Yeah, Dover's not that bad of a track. At least it's unique in its own way.

I actually like Dover. Multiple groove racing, chance of a big one, etc... Just like how unique it is.

Yeah, just because Cup will stink the place out on Sunday doesn't mean the Nationwide and especially the truck races don't have a good chance of being worth watching :)

I love Dover just because it's not a mile and a half oval.

The worst race I have ever been to was the first COT race at Dover. I had my usual spot in turn 3, looking up the backstretch. Usually, the cars coming out of T2 would whip the rear out and slide around. There was no sliding that day. That is when I truly realized that we were in for a long, boring ride with the COT. Not much has changed.

I still love Dover though. Blame the cars, not the track.

I recall there being some good COT races at Dover, 09 had a good finish with Johnson/Stewart/Biffle, and '08 had a good finish with Biffle/Kenseth/Edwards.

Funny thing is that most of the problems fans brought up are related to the cars and not to the tracks they race on. The new aero "changes" didn't do anything at Charlotte.

I thought the COT races at Dover were ok until 2009 or so. In the past couple of years, ever since Goodyear came up with the 'tried and tested at Indianapolis' compound that never falls off, Dover, like all other big tracks, has suffered tremendously with track position and fuel mileage oriented racing. Here's a good post demonstrating this.

Quote:
I'll go through this incredibly long story as quickly as possible.

2009 Autism Speaks 400 - WITHOUT LEAD LAP DOUBLE FILE Old Style Goodyear Rubber Compound
Jimmie Johnson comes from about 12th (24th with lapped cars) in less than 40 laps to win on 4 fresh tires. Passes cars on 4, 2 and no tires. Had 1 caution to bunch the field back up. Battled 2 wide to the checkered flag.

2011 FedEx 400 - With Double File Restarts, New "better" tire compound
Jimmie Johnson again dominates the day. Pits with again around 40 to go. Takes 4 tires and drops back to about 14th. Mark Martin stays out on no tires, and Matt Kenseth takes 2. Johnson doesn't have nearly as many cars to pass this time. Makes up literally 4 spots. Martin finishes 2nd on 50+ lap old tires. Kenseth wins on 2 tires - and pulls away at that.

Wide open around Dover at that. :8:

Never thought I would hear that one.

Dover is a tricky one to make a good tire for. When they ran the soft tires that wore out, we'd be racing until someone popped a right front and knocked the wall down for a yellow and a tire change, then repeat. It was the case in both Busch and Cup. I agree Dover has sported some pretty racy events, but recently they've been kind of ho hum. SPEED should be all over the fact that their boy Kyle got his last win here in 1995 in the first concrete race! A then rookie ( :? holy crap i'm old) Bobby Labonte was second and hard charging Ted Musgrave third.

Well, they've got a new tire compound for this weekend, so hopefully it'll help.
