Was just looking over the ARCA entry list for Saturday's race.

60 Freakin' Cars 8O 8O 8O If they all actually show up it would be the most entries since there were 65 in 2008. (only 47 last year)

But most notably, #40 Donnie Neuenberger/Edgewater MD El Caribe Dodge

That's pretty cool! Would be neat if they could split them into two 30-car heats to qualify for the main race, Saturday-night short track style, but that would probably be a mess. Wishful thinking I suppose. :p

I was thinking more about the two-car tango. Just imagine a bunch of inexperienced rookies trying to do that the whole race...

Darrell Basham might get himself a top 10 after all.

Darrell Basham actually seems to have a solid RCR engine/chassis for this race.

Yeah, I saw that. Was just thinking back to the 2009 race, so many guys taken out that he and Norm Benning got top 10's out of it.

Hopefully we'll actually have a good race this year in ARCA. The last couple years have been follow the leader accompanied by single car spins becoming massive clusterfucks. Oh and Bobby Gerhart winning.

I want to see Darrell do pretty good at Daytona. I was happy they(DBR) managed to finish 10th in points last year after everything they went through with the shop fire.

Will Kimmel's got a pretty nice looking car, too:

I imagine it'll be more of this only a few more spins caused by failed two car tangos.

Single file throughout while a few cars attempt to hook up.

I wonder how many times the term "Arca Brakes" will be used.....

I'm betting on at least 20/25....

Has ARCA ever said what it plans on doing once it's teams run out of old Cup cars?

I would imagine they would switch to the Cot then. Some teams still build there own Arca cars too.

But yeah, it will be a problem in a couple years.

Maybe it'll end up like late 80's BGN, when they had Monte Carlo's and Grand Prix's running against bigger-wheelbase Nova's and Ventura's in the same race.

Depends. Busch East and West (or whatever they're called) still run the old car. If ARCA changes the wheelbase requirement then they could still run those. But, I suspect that someone will come along and build the old style car. Is Laughlin Chassis still in business? There are more chassis builders out there then you think that could supply the field.

ARCA had races with the old style cars and the newer ones in the early 80s.

I know I'm probably missing something but is there a reason why they can't just take old COT's in a few years?

COY's they'll be by then, but still....

Does anyone actually watch ARCA at Daytona for "racing" purposes or is is really just crash porn? Whenever I've watched it I feel a bit dirty knowing full well that in 5 minutes I'm going to watch a few thousand dollars barrel-rolling in front of me, lol.

Of course it's crash porn.

Although I personally still have the heebie-jeebies after Vegas, especially with this lot, so I am hoping they keep it clean. By ARCA standards anyway.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

For my sins I enjoy restrictor plate racing, crashes or not.

There's just something inherently "cool" to my brain seeing an on-board of any racing car getting a hell of a slipstream off the car in front and bearing down on it.

In the early days of the two car tango when you had an entire pack of cars then suddenly 2 cars going about 5mph faster and zooming off was pretty cool to watch too, before they all started doing it and it got a bit out of hand.

OK so ARCA is more like the comedy warm up act where its not taken as seriously as the main event, but the last 5 laps of any restrictor plate race are srs bizniss, providing they're green of course ;)

*Edit* Also the fact it'll be the first proper race I get to see in 2012 won't hurt. I missed about 98% of the Daytona 24 so this'll quench my racing thirst.

I still have flashbacks to Patrick Sheltra's near-fatal wreck in '09 after being t-boned drivers side. Hate to imagine something like that with a faster two-car train barreling at you.
