Congratulations Tony Stewart! Winning a Sprint Cup Series championship driving for his own team since 1992, when a guy won it driving with his own team. Also joining a special group of three times Nascar champions! :flag:

Earl still wins the championship though right? (at work so unable to watch the race or hear commentary on points situation)

Nope. Though tied for points. Stewart wins the title due to more wins than Carl.

Man, that is heartbreaking for Carl. He's going to rue that decision to take 2 tires for the rest of the winter.

Congrats to Tony.

That was fucking amazing.

Kudos to both Carl and Tony, that was one of the most exciting races I've ever watched championship-wise. :flag:

The only final race I've seen that was more tense was 2004, but that was because Gordon was involved.

What would the standings have been under last years points system? I'm thinking a tie still but I may be wrong.

This race didn't have nearly the drama for me that it could have, because I was checking in on it through live leaderboard and the forum, and the whole race I thought Tony had to finish 5 spots ahead of Edwards or something

Incredible finale! So glad Tony won, so so happy for him :D Love his style of racing, been supporting him ever since I was taping NASCAR highlights off channel 5 at 3am to watch the next morning before primary school  He ain't perfect exactly but I can't help but be a big fan. Worth staying up 'till 20 past 1am for. (It's hard here in the UK!)

Being the saddo I am, I have been doing standings using old scoring system. Tony was ahead by 9 coming into Homestead.

Those last 20 laps were incredible. I was fully expecting Edwards to catch back up and having a wheel to wheel battle for the championship, and not just a win. I wonder if we'll ever see anything as close again in our lifetimes for NASCAR.

I'm totally happy with seeing Tony Stewart win the championship. I was wanting earlier in the week to see Edwards win, but the way Stewart fought tooth and nail during the Chase and during this race was commendable. I haven't been happy with a championship winner in quite a few years. Great stuff. :)
