Im in defence of the present, but I wonder if this that we have now was the past and the old school racing is the present, how much moaning would still be posted, if not more. Just make yourselfs this exercise, if youve grown up seeing racing with 20 top 5 cars and that changed to 3 top 3 cars for example. For me the only real problem is the aero dependance, thank god for theese new tires.

We never would have these arguments if drivers just stopped being ok with wrecking every 5 laps. It's almost as if the end of RP races have turned into drunk friends driving gokarts at the putt putt course.

GWC is directly responsible for this. NASCAR drivers haven't gotten worse at driving plate tracks, and in the 90s if there was a restart with 2 to go (see 1997 Daytona July race) it would usually result in a massive pileup.

This post is revealing of the typical thought process of NASCAR fandom; half of us want legitimate racing, half of us moan about BLUE BALLS FINISHES. NASCAR's problem is they listened to the latter half.

i wouldn't mind the new rules and cars if nascar would stop nannying the drivers. casey mears deserved to get punched in the face, and casey mears knows he deserved to get punched in the face. he even said so himself.

when men settle things between themselves off the track it usually results in a healthier environment of clear lines and respect, but when their only recourse is to settle it among themselves in cars going 200mph you have a situation far more dangerous. "boys have at it" shouldve always been about what happens out of the cars, not in them.

i gurantee you, if kyle busch was worried about getting punched in the face he'd have grown up and stopped being a punk-ass a long time ago.

Take social media, transpose it to any other era (from pretty much any sport), and you'll have complaints about the quality of what they're watching. Sure, the cars were cooler to look at, the personalities were better, but the level of competition and cars vying for the win each week was the same (if not worse, truthfully), so there would undoubtedly be the same thing going on then... IF social media existed.

But it didn't. So, we're just longing for those days when we were in our own little world, watching races every Sunday, talking about it with friends the next day, reading about it in the paper, etc.

I'm a firm believer that that problem isn't necessarily the sport - although, it does have its fair share of problems - it's us. We're clearly a society that does not appreciate a single damn thing until it's gone... which is why I'm trying hard as hell to overlook everything that's going on in NASCAR today.

This year has been great, IMO.

Oh, only one thing that really could change, or two - less aero-dependance, and more short tracks.

From the perspective of teams, unless you are Hendrick or Gibbs (even them in a way), they are losing alot of value in NASCAR.
Not really a "fuck you, NASCAR" but I guess it applies to the downfall of the sport as a whole.

Quote:
I conclude that the overall value of teams has declined by almost 40% since 2006 and has yet to flatten. After years of consolidation and uneven growth, fewer teams are fighting over a shrinking value in NASCAR.

Forbes defines team value as a function of financial and competitive successes and NASCAR’s overall health.

Wait for NASCAR to issue a cease and desist on that article like they did last year to the guy posting analysis of their falling ratings.

It's by the same guy. His site wasn't removed, he just had to take down the articles which nascar had an issue with.

you made that post as if you thought it was someone different who wrote about the ratings ("to the guy posting analysis"). i was just saying it's the person (along with some others, i admit i missed that part) who has done both the ratings and the value article. and that c&d occured this year, not "last year". if i'm missing some point, then let me know.

Right you are, I just read it as you thinking I suggested they were taking whole sites down. I was off on the other two points. All good
