I look back on Petty's era as one where a lot of championships were won just by showing up for every race, when he was the only driver on the track in a lot of races (not literally but you know what I mean about the schedule back then).

You'd be hard pressed to find a driver who entered every race in a season before 1972. There were a lot of mid-week races then too.

This is just the new era of NASCAR we either get over it or stop watching. Smoke said it best years ago.. "Why do you all keep talking about the old system?!". It's utterly pointless these days, and the drivers would be doing different things on the track if that was still the case. Kyle did what he had to do, and you all know I'd love to bash the shit outta him, but I can't. He had the 2nd most wins of any driver with missing 11 races. (I'm sure he woulda won at least 2 of the 11 he missed had he been there), and didn't choke like he did in the past come Chase time. He worked the system perfect, and that's the current day NASCAR.

I could put up with a system ten times worse than the playoff.... if the racing itself wasn't so godawful most of the time. I can only hope the low downforce package helps turn things around, but NASCAR has a history of taking something promising and tinkering with it until it's royally fucked.

Which old system? The format now is different from two years ago.

Believe he was referring to the classic 36 race accumulation point system...it's changed even since then. But yea comparing any Championship run with a different system is silly if you ask me...Think Logano would have turned Kenseth at Kansas had just been points racing?

nascar your are an absolute disgrace why do you need a chase in the xfinity and truck series, oh wait that's right you don't want a blowaway series and you want to make homestead one of the most boring tracks of the year a WWE championship "decider" and what is this ludicrous caution clock meant to achieve, I guess people are so sick of 1.5 mile snoozefest tracks the best solution is to make them like a short track with constant field bunching

I love how NASCAR supposedly prides itself on safety, yet will wait 10-15 precious seconds to throw the caution (and allowing safety/medical crews to enter the track) just so the leaders can race to an invisible line.

Especially when they're so trigger-happy with cautions....

GWC's on gigantic racetracks where the cars are also forced to run in a big pack due to their engines being restricted in the interest of safety.
