Or just have the race run the scheduled number of laps and if it occasionally ends with a wreck, accept it and move on. Don't reward stupid driving with another shot at making places up. Somehow that worked for NASCAR for 50 years and continues to work for most other motorsports. Do you really think the recent trend of multiple wrecks at the end of a race has nothing to do with the GWC rule?

To be fair, while it may not have been part of top level NASCAR, wasn't it popular at the short track level for quite some time?

On a short track level it might work, but NASCAR has tracks of many sizes. On a giant track like Talladega it's just a stupid idea.

I also hate NASCAR using the excuse of "We want to keep costs down by not having a bunch of wrecked cars at the end" as reasoning for having one GWC.

It's Talla-fucking-dega. They're gonna wreck anyway. Any team that's been in NASCAR long enough has the foresight going in that there's a 98% chance their wallets are gonna take a hit due to typical RP shenanigans. Finances should not be such a big issue if you are properly prepared for the inevitable clusterfuck.

Really, if they'd had 3 GWCs we would have just had 3 times the stupidity. The last few years the GWC rule has been run we've seen the same pattern of consecutive wrecks interrupting slim hopes of racing every time. Yet before the GWC was a thing, most of the time drivers could keep their shit together on the last run to the flag and we'd see a deserving winner. The GWC rule, whether it's 1, 3 or infinity, is the problem.

Really I'm just glad this happened and is happening now. We need stupid things like this to discredit the chase and the current direction Nascar is headed in. If these incidents don't happen, the product won't have to change. I hope for even more bullshit to continue through to Homestead.

I fully expect NASCAR to lose control of one of the next 4 races like they did Phoenix 2012.

Martinsville is a good bet for bedlam to ensue.

A Chase for the Truck Series?

In the words of Chad Knaus (Charlotte 2011): "You've got to be fuckin kidding me?"

In the mind of Brian France, this is all working out better than he could have ever dreamed, so why not give the Truck series the gift of the chase?

Just give the Truck series more short tracks and road courses (Lime Rock!!) and series fixed... you're welcome.

Fuck the Chase.

The only reason he qualified for the Chase in the first place is because he drove his ass off during the summer. The medical waiver allowed him the oppurtunity to race his way into the Chase but he had to perform in order to get into the top 30 to be elidgible.

I believe under the old system he would've been 20th, which is a helluva feat in and of itself.

I agree, the Chase is crap, but I won't bitch that Rowdy won.

You have a situation where the winner of the driver's championship missed a lot of the races. It just doesn't make sense.

In the future, either this era will be looked back on with a lot of regret, or things will have evolved to where NASCAR is all entertainment, and no sport whatsoever.
