Exactly....Roll cages are made to withstand a roll/flip. They are not made to withstand the cars full weight being slammed into it at 100+ mph or have another car pile into it at 100+ mph. They do add protection and yes, the roll cage probably saved Shane's life. Without it, he would be dead.

im just saying..with todays safety regulations and standards...that cage should have stayed a little more rigid, and shouldnt have collapsed so much..but the wall the car hit was solid concrete and had no give at all...just shit bad luck there

hope he recovers and drives again.

Coyotekart1 without skunking up this thread, what the hell is the main source of protection in any impact.

Well obviously the roll cage, but its called a roll cage for a reason. Take a cup car and slam it into a wall roof first and the result would be the same. Brad Keselowski at Atlanta this year for example.

Its just a freak thing that rarely happens but when it does, it is a very serious situation.

I wonder if USAC will look into a new roll cage design or add an extra bar or two to the cage itself. Kinda like NASCAR did with the A and B pillars and Earnhardt bar after the roofs were starting to cave in on impacts.

aren't most racing accidents with serious injuries freak accidents these days anyways??

Horrible impact. Roll cage looked like it was made of paper even if it wasnt intended for such impact.

Yea its a shame Brad broke all those bones in that accident. Eerily similar to Jill Georges fatal Daytona accident and the Dave Blaney deal from Talladega that left him in the wheel chair.

to be fair the main point of impact with the wall looked to be exactly where the weld join was on the roll bar, probably a million to one chance of that hapenning at that angle on a concrete wall.

Well done on making yourself look like a total asshole. A open wheel dirt car and a stockcar are completely different. What would you think the outcome would be if it was any single seater with a open cockpit.

Glad to see Shane is improving, i raced him alot in iRacing and though hes not the fastest/cleanest guy out there but he breaths motor racing which i respect.

Im interested if they decide to look at the frame, im actually releifed the frame held up at all as Chromolly tubing is very light and i wouldnt think it would withstand a hit like that on that angle in a very heavy Silver Crown car.

Settle down, people. No need for this thread to turn into a fight.

Aint no fighting, just a typical discussion involving TBK's expert drivers, engineers, and meteorologists.

Its the be the bigger man people that seem to always escalate things.

Well, I'd like that escalation to stop. No need to call anyone assholes or dicks.

It's incredible that he suffered no head trauma (according to his mother). If the surgery goes well and he's suffered no paralysis, it'll be quite the amazing escape. Not to be too morbid but if you showed me the crash alone with no insight into the outcome, I'd almost certainly believe the driver would have been dead before the car even came to rest.

Nasty wreck it was. The human body works in mysterious ways sometimes. Stan Fox didn't have any broken leg bones in his wreck at Indy is another example.

I have to agree. Definitely a freak accident, but equally lucky that he was only hurt as bad as he was. Hope he recovers quickly.
