call it a bullshit source if you want, idc, there is never anything official in these situations and you have to take stuff at face value, waiting for an hour to give me that great bit of advice is just as useless you know.

Update on Shane Hmiel from Pres of USAC: They are stiching him up now, the initial head scans seem to look all right but need him to wake up from the sedation to know more. They are moving him out of intensive care and into a room..bout the best news to we can get right now..still not completely out of the woods yet but can breathe a sigh of relief.

There is not a prize for being the first to report that he died.

Like nobody else here would have posted that tweet if they'd come upon it first.

When people are using random tweets as their sources, that's probably for the best.

Here's hoping the best for Shane :flag:

We had the same when Massa was injured
We had the same when Henry Surtees was injured.
Please report what you hear, but let's quote the source too ... As we know, there are some idiots out there who like this sort of thing and we don't need to add any fuel to their fire!

Sounds terrible. I've heard he's been doing really well in USAC this season. Would be so utterly cruel for him to go down like this after working so hard to get clean and pull himself back together. :(

I'm hoping for the best. It's terrible that something like this happened. He seemed to have turned his life around after drugs cost him his Nascar career. His racing career seemed to have gotten a second lease on life in USAC.

As far as posting reports go. Please post stuff that are from reliable sourses. I would be leary of posting stuff from twitter because it's very hard to verify how much of that stuff is credible and how much of it is horse manure.

One Tweet was enough to let people think that former NHL head coach Pat Burns died from the cancer he's currently fighting. Even TSN, "Canada's sports leader" got caught. They had to appology to Pat Burns, who said "they all want me to die, but I'll show them how wrong they can be !"

He was really getting things back on the right track by doing well in USAC and working with the Three-wide Life TV show as well. Wish him a speedy recovery.

On behalf of RW and Shane's family, we would like to thank the entire community for your concern, good thoughts and prayers.

This morning, Shane is in critical, but stable condition. He has sustained two breaks in his back and two in his neck. He is currently awaiting surgery.

We ask that you continue to offer your prayers and healing energy as he has a long road to go. We will do our best to keep you updated on his condition.

Many thanks for your support.

You cant expect the cage to hold up to a 100+ mph impact directly into a wall. Those are called ROLL cages for a reason. They are made to withstand a flip.

There was a fatal crash at Daytona back in 1983 during the Twin 125s where a driver was killed due to the roll cage not being able to withstand the impact, his name was Bruce Jacobi.
