My best advice is to get seating in any of the towers. Get as high up as you can. The lower you get, the less track you can actually see. The crowd generally behaves themselves, outside the track anyways. I can't speak on the infield. You may get a few rowdy characters but I can't remember ever seeing so much as a fight. The possibility is always there to come across a few drunks, especially as the actual race goes on and afterwards.

Saw some drunkard run across the paved area outside the track lose his balance and tumble in a small nearby ditch after the 2011 '500.

Redneck central. Daytona is a bit of a hole. Outside of the speedway (which is lovely), it's not a nice place.

Checking out the pricing, it's $680 for seats at the Sprint Tower (4 days). Cheapest is the front section of the backstretch grandstands at $68.

I went to the Bud Shootout in 2003 and I was in the tower section in turn 4 standing there holding the rail watching the race and a drunk lady just came up from behind and stuck her hands in my hoody pocket looking for warmth i guess. Needless to say she didnt get it. Thats the only weird experience I have ever had at a race.

Paulie Harraka is out of the #5 truck. This is from jayski.com

Quote:
During Wednesday's edition of NASCAR RaceHub, it was announced that Paulie Harraka and Wauters Motorsports have parted ways, effective immediately. Aric Almirola has been tapped to drive the #5 Ford in Friday night's Jeff Foxworthy's Grit Chips 200. Harraka has missed the last two races as Wauters Motorsports decided to regroup instead of traveling to Michigan and Bristol. Harraka's rookie year has been a struggle up to this point. In 11 starts, Harraka's best finishes have been a pair of 17ths at Dover and Kentucky. Crashes have plagued Harraka's season as well, with all four of his DNF's due to wrecks. In addition, Harraka was involved in wrecks in two additional races. These incidents, like the one at Pocono, have spoiled good runs. As a result, Harraka is currently 22nd in drivers points, while the No. 5 is 24th in owners' points.
UPDATE: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, Aric Almirola will pilot the #5 Jordan Truck Sales - Courtesy Ford Wauters Motorsports F150 Friday night in the Jeff Foxworthy's Grit Chips 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Almirola has two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series wins with Richie Wauters as the crew chief (Dover, Michigan 2010) and three previous starts at Atlanta's tricky, high-speed quad-oval in the series, with a best finish of third-place position in 2010. Wauters, in his tenure as a crew chief, has had tremendous success at the 1.54-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway, boasting four wins, five top-5, and seven top-10 finishes in 12 starts at the Hampton, Georgia track. Sponsors of the #5 Ford F150, Jordan Truck Sales & Courtesy Ford, are based in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Rimrock Design, Lake City, Florida and Quick Lane Tire and Auto Center, Georgia will also be on the NASCAR truck for Friday nights event.(

I didn't know a different team had been fielding the #5 as a start and park entry the last two events. I think Aric Almirola can give the #5 truck a good run in Atlanta.

I thought Daytona had a lot of rednecks, until I went to Talladega last year.

I've been going to Daytona every year since 1999, and I've never seen a fight or anyone getting escorted out of the stands. NASCAR fans enjoy the drinking aspect though and it is kind of part of the experience.

If you get more than a mile away from the speedway heading east toward the beach it's a very rough area, and most of the residents are African American. Heading west back towards Orlando isn't nearly as bad, though it's a little less than middle class. There are plenty of nice restaurants and shopping centers, as well as hotels that have been built on International Speedway Blvd the last few years, but if you want to stay there it's a bit of a challenge getting a room, and they charge out the asshole.

Look at Mississippi and Alabama. Florida has a bit of everything.

I agree with this, found the comments before a bit exagerated?
Granted I don't live there but, have been many times to FL, and never noticed a huge ammount of rednecks, and the ones I did come across, were really sounds guys?

The tourist areas like Orlando were obviously redneck free. It's what most people see of Florida, so they want it looking nice. Daytona itself I found a complete hole. It just wasn't a nice place to be.

SHR loosing Office Depot
from Jayski:
Quote:
Stewart losing sponsor: Office Depot, co-primary sponsor for Tony Stewart's #14 Chevy in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series since Stewart took over the team in 2009, will not return in that capacity in 2013, a team spokesman confirmed. "Office Depot has notified SHR that they will not be renewing as the primary sponsor of the #14 team," SHR spokesman Mike Arning said. "However, SHR is in continued discussions with Office Depot regarding possible future roles the company could have with the team." Asked what those future roles might be, Arning was unable to specify. "They want to be involved with Tony and the team, but are unsure how right now," he said. Office Depot's departure leaves quite a void for SHR. The office-products company held the primary sponsorship in 22 of 38 races in 2012. Mobil 1, which holds primary sponsorship of the #14 in the series' remaining 16 events, will carry the same investment in 2013, Arning said.
Mindy Kramer, Senior Director of Communications for Office Depot, said the decision to leave the three-time champion was difficult and not taken lightly. "The changing business landscape warrants a realignment of priorities and resources," Kramer said via written statement. "That being said, Tony Stewart has been an exceptional ambassador for our brand, and he has gone above and beyond in everything that he has done for our company. Being a part of his legendary 2011 championship run was a moment of tremendous pride for everyone at Office Depot." Office Depot is also currently the "Official Office Products Partner" of NASCAR, a status they've held since 2005. Kramer and NASCAR spokesman Jon Schwartz both said the two sides are still negotiating any future relationship.(ESPN)(9-2-2012)
